Profiles

Deutsch: Profile

A profile tells the AI who you are and what it should do for you, so you don't have to repeat it in every chat. For example, a project manager in a research facility might store their role and their experience, and ask the AI to answer briefly and in plain language. You can have several profiles, for example, one for work and one for private use, and switch between them.

Creating a profile

Profiles aren't on the "Settings" page. You manage them from the chat:

1. In the chat, click the profile button. Its tooltip reads "You can switch between your profiles here".

2. Choose "Manage your profiles". The dialog "Your Profiles" opens.

3. Click "Add Profile", and fill in:

   • "Profile Name": required, at most 40 characters, and different from your other profiles.
   • "What should the AI know about you?": for example, your profession, your experience, and the technologies you like.
   • "What should the AI do for you?": for example, your goals, or that the AI should address you informally.

   One of the two text fields is enough. You can also load the text from a file or drag a file onto the field.

4. Click "Add".

Keep a profile short. AI Studio adds it to the instructions of every chat, and a very long profile uses up the room the model has for your actual task.

Using a profile

• In the chat: choose a profile with the profile button, or "Use no profile". A change applies to the current chat right away.
• In assistants: assistants that use profiles have the same button at the bottom. A few assistants offer a profile selection inside their form instead. The My Tasks assistant needs a profile.

Some assistants don't use profiles at all, for example, the Translation and Grammar & Spelling assistants.

Preselecting a profile

• For the whole app: "Settings" → "App Options" → "Preselect one of your profiles?"
• For the chat: in the chat, open "Chat Options" with the gear icon, switch on "Preselect chat options?", and choose under "Preselect a profile".
• For an assistant: open the options of the assistant with the gear icon, switch on the preselection, and choose under "Preselect a profile".

The choice of an assistant or the chat wins over the one for the whole app. A chat template can also start its chats with a certain profile, or forbid profiles altogether.

Editing, deleting, and importing

In "Your Profiles", each profile has "Edit" and "Delete". With "Import Profile", you add a profile that a colleague shared with you as text: paste it into "Exported configuration", check the profile, and save it.

Profiles of your organization

Your organization may provide profiles. They show a building icon instead of a person. You can use them and view them with "View", but you can't change them. Your organization may also preselect a profile for you or switch off importing.
