This section is for people who extend AI Studio or connect it to their own systems. It is still growing. Until it is complete, these documents in our repository describe the topics:

Connecting your own data: ERI

The External Retrieval Interface (ERI) lets AI Studio search the data of your organization through a server that you run. AI Studio decides by the security policy of the server which AI providers may see its data.

Writing assistant plugins

Assistant plugins are assistants written in Lua, with their own forms and prompts. The reference for assistant plugins describes every component, with a template and an example. The Assistant Builder in AI Studio creates such plugins from a description. How organizations approve and roll out plugins is on Assistants and Templates.

Describing models

Organizations that run models of their own describe their abilities in a model plugin. The example model plugin explains every field, and Providers and API Keys how to roll one out. How AI Studio itself knows what a model can do is described in Models.md.

Tools

The tools that AI models use, such as web search, are part of AI Studio. Third parties can't add tools of their own yet. Tools.md explains how tools are built inside AI Studio.
