• PR Bring in scale-aware 3DTKE related changes for GFS TKE EDMF PBL scheme #2734; Add option in GFS PBL to use liquid/ice potential temperature in local mixing #2763; Update MOM6 to its main repo. 20250527 commit #2757; Mom6 025 warmstart option #2761 #2734 and its related PRs try to bring in the scale-aware 3DTKE related changes for GFS TKE EDMF PBL scheme developed by Prof. Ping Zhu (@zhup01) from FIU and his group (e.g., @samuelkyfung). The FIU developers together with EMC hurricane project team and physics group (@JongilHan66, @yangfanglin, @ChuankaiWang-NOAA, @WeiguoWang-NOAA, @ZhanZhang-NOAA, @BinLiu-NOAA) have conducted some idealized and real hurricane test cases by using this improved scale-aware 3DTKE EDMF GFS PBL scheme with the UFS hurricane (HAFS) application.

• PR Add option in GFS TKE EDMF PBL scheme to use liquid/ice potential temperature in local mixing #2763 and its related PRs add a namelist option in GFS TKE EDMF PBL scheme to apply an approximate way to represent local mixing/diffusion process in T-equation using liquid/ice water potential temperature fluxes. This could potentially improve the mixing-length-theory-based parameterization of local diffusion processes in cloudy areas of tropical cyclones (TC). The UFS hurricane application (HAFS) group has conducted retrospective tests during the upgrade of operational HAFS version 2.1, showing this option has positive impacts on TC intensity and rapid intensification forecasts.
