Rodenstick needs the ViGEmBus driver to create the virtual gamepad. Install it from the official releases (or re-run the Rodenstick installer and check the driver option), then restart Rodenstick.
Windows opens the Game Bar when it sees an Xbox controller connect — which is exactly what Rodenstick's virtual pad looks like. Disable it in Windows Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar: turn off Allow your controller to open Xbox Game Bar.
The maximum range setting (default 1000 pixels from the center) can be larger than your screen. On a 1080p screen there are only 540 pixels from the center to the top edge, so vertical deflection tops out early. Lower Maximum range in the settings until the travel feels right (500 is a good starting point for 1080p).
Overlays cannot be drawn over exclusive fullscreen games. Switch the game to borderless (windowed) fullscreen — for the game itself the conversion works either way; only the overlay display is affected.
Rodenstick does not block normal mouse input. Use the middle-click toggle to enable the conversion only while driving, and disable it when navigating menus.
The old joy.cpl properties dialog repaints lazily and can show stale state
while you interact with it. The device state is correct — trust Rodenstick's
own overlays or the game itself.
