Bumps the actions group with 4 updates: github/codeql-action/init, github/codeql-action/analyze, pnpm/action-setup and actions/deploy-pages.

Updates github/codeql-action/init from 4.37.9 to 4.38.1

Release notes

Sourced from github/codeql-action/init's releases.

v4.38.1

  • The CodeQL Action now has experimental support for CodeQL releases for which per-language bundles are available. Per-language bundles support analysis for a single language and are therefore smaller than the combined bundles that allow analysis for all supported languages. As a result, per-language bundles take up less space on disk and are faster to download. We expect to roll this change out to everyone in the coming weeks. #4146

v4.38.0

  • On GitHub-hosted runners, the CodeQL Action now deletes unused CodeQL bundles from the toolcache before downloading a different bundle, which frees up disk space for the analysis. We expect to roll this change out to everyone in September. #4124
  • The CodeQL Action now supports CodeQL releases that are compatible with Linux Arm64 and downloads the native linux-arm64 CodeQL bundle when available. #4072
  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.0. #4129

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.26.4. #4106

4.37.8 - 21 Aug 2026

No user facing changes.

4.37.7 - 13 Aug 2026

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.26.3. #4085

4.37.6 - 04 Aug 2026

  • Changed the default filepath for the new remote file address format that was introduced in CodeQL Action 4.37.0 / 3.37.0 to .github/codeql-config.yml to align it with the suggested path that is used elsewhere. #4070

4.37.5 - 03 Aug 2026

  • Fixed a bug where a network error while streaming the download of the CodeQL bundle could terminate the init Action instead of falling back to downloading the bundle before extracting it. #4061

4.37.4 - 29 Jul 2026

  • This version of the CodeQL Action adds support for the tools input for the codeql-action/init step to be specified using a github-codeql-tools repository property. This feature will gradually be rolled out following the release of this version. Once rolled out, this allows for the CodeQL CLI version that is used in GitHub-managed workflows, such as Default Setup, to be set to a custom value. For example, customers who run into issues with rate limits when a new CodeQL CLI version is released can set the value to toolcache to always use the CodeQL CLI version that is available in the runner toolcache. For Advanced Setup workflows, the value provided for tools in the workflow definition always takes precedence unless the value of the repository property starts with !. #4037
  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.26.2. #4051

4.37.3 - 22 Jul 2026

No user facing changes.

4.37.2 - 21 Jul 2026

  • The new address format for the config-file input that was introduced in CodeQL Action 4.37.0 is now enabled by default. In addition to the format described there, the remote= prefix can now be used to explicitly indicate that the input refers to a remote file. All previous input formats continue to be accepted as well. #4023

Codex review: needs maintainer review before merge. Reviewed September 29, 2026, 2:42 PM ET / 18:42 UTC (Revision 6).

ClawSweeper review

What this changes

Updates four SHA-pinned GitHub Actions used for CodeQL scanning, SDK release preparation, and documentation deployment.

Merge readiness

✅ Ready for maintainer review

Current main still uses the older action pins. The open dependency refresh at #87 proposes the same four updates, but it has not merged, so this PR remains a valid landing candidate under the repository’s conservative close policy. No actionable defect was found.

Review scores

Measure Result What it means
Overall readiness 🐚 platinum hermit (4/6) A focused, verified action update has passing relevant checks and no actionable patch finding; release and deployment execution remains for normal owner review.
Proof confidence 🐚 platinum hermit (4/6) Not applicable: This bot-authored action update is exempt from contributor runtime proof. Exact-head CodeQL and workflow lint checks passed; they do not demonstrate SDK tag publishing or Pages deployment. No stored-data contract changes.
Patch quality 🐚 platinum hermit (4/6) No actionable review findings were identified.

Verification

Check Result Evidence
Real behavior Not applicable Not applicable: This bot-authored action update is exempt from contributor runtime proof. Exact-head CodeQL and workflow lint checks passed; they do not demonstrate SDK tag publishing or Pages deployment. No stored-data contract changes.
Evidence reviewed 11 items Introduced workflow pins: The pinned PR delta changes exactly four action references across three workflows; the verified test merge has the same result against its main parent.
Current main remains unchanged: The current main version of the CodeQL workflow still pins the earlier action SHA; the SDK release and Pages workflows likewise retain their earlier pins.
Release workflow boundary: The changed pnpm setup action runs while preparing SDK artifacts on SDK tag pushes; publishing follows in a separate job.
Findings None None.
Security None None.

How this fits together

GitHub workflows take repository pushes, pull requests, and SDK tags as inputs. They run security analysis, prepare SDK releases, or deploy the documentation site.

Metric Value Why it matters
Workflow pin changes 4 updated across 3 workflows The review scope is limited to action versions used for scanning, SDK preparation, and docs deployment.

Root-cause cluster

Relationship: duplicate
Canonical: #87
Summary: The open broader dependency refresh contains the same four action pin edits; the earlier matching Dependabot PR closed without merging.

Members:

Proposal only: this assessment does not dispatch repair, suppress jobs, mutate sibling items, close, or merge anything.

Technical review

Best possible solution:

Land one reviewed set of these verified action pins, with the workflow code owner reviewing the release and deployment paths.

Do we have a high-confidence way to reproduce the issue?

Not applicable: this PR updates workflow dependencies rather than reporting a reproducible product issue.

Is this the best way to solve the issue?

Yes: the four new references resolve to upstream release tags, and the branch preserves the existing workflow structure and permissions.

No label changes.

Label justifications:

  • P3: This is a focused dependency maintenance update with no demonstrated user-facing regression.
  • rating: 🐚 platinum hermit: Overall readiness is 🐚 platinum hermit; proof is 🐚 platinum hermit and patch quality is 🐚 platinum hermit.
  • status: 👀 ready for maintainer look: ClawSweeper has no concrete contributor-facing blocker left for this PR. Evidence

What I checked:

  • Introduced workflow pins: The pinned PR delta changes exactly four action references across three workflows; the verified test merge has the same result against its main parent. (.github/workflows/codeql.yml:31, cd6af00e5cdb)
  • Current main remains unchanged: The current main version of the CodeQL workflow still pins the earlier action SHA; the SDK release and Pages workflows likewise retain their earlier pins. (.github/workflows/codeql.yml:31, 4e172a04b056)
  • Release workflow boundary: The changed pnpm setup action runs while preparing SDK artifacts on SDK tag pushes; publishing follows in a separate job. (.github/workflows/npm-release.yml:30, cd6af00e5cdb)
  • Deployment workflow boundary: The changed Pages action consumes the uploaded documentation artifact in the deployment job. (.github/workflows/pages.yml:61, cd6af00e5cdb)
  • Upstream CodeQL pin: The annotated v4.38.1 tag peels to the exact SHA used for both CodeQL steps. (1c5b675653bb)
  • Upstream pnpm pin: The annotated v6.1.0 tag peels to the exact SHA used by SDK release preparation. (ea17c68df891)

Overall follows the weaker of proof and patch quality.
Shiny media proof means a screenshot, video, or linked artifact directly shows the changed behavior. Runtime, network, CSP, and security claims still need visible diagnostics.

  • A fresh review can be triggered by eligible @clawsweeper re-review comments, exact-item GitHub events, scheduled/background review runs, or manual workflow dispatch.
  • PR/issue authors and users with repository write access can comment @clawsweeper re-review or @clawsweeper re-run on an open PR or issue to request a fresh review only.
  • Maintainers can also comment @clawsweeper review to request a fresh review only.
  • Fresh-review commands do not start repair, autofix, rebase, CI repair, or automerge.

Thanks for these updates. Consolidated all four Actions updates, with their exact pinned commits, into #87 so the dependency refresh can be reviewed and validated together. Closing this duplicate in favor of that PR.
