Overview:

The Sandwich Sub was a platform built during the Spring semester of the 2016-17 school year as a submarine proof-of-concept. The platform has submersive capability in shallow depths and is controlled using three thrusters.

Parts:

  • O-Rings: 4X O-rings for sealing end-caps onto tube. #245 Buna-N O-Ring (supplier) (sizing chart)
  • Pressure Hull: 1X clear acrylic tube for holding electronics.
  • Thrusters: 3X Blue Robotics T-200 Thrusters for propulsion, steering, and depth control. (reference) (documentation)
  • Hull Pass-Throughs: 3X Blue Robotics Cable Penetrator for passing thruster cables into the pressure hull. (reference)
  • Motor Controllers: 3X Blue Robotics Speed Controllers for controlling thrusters. (reference) (documentation)
  • 8020 Aluminum Extrude: Lengths of 8020 aluminum tubing for mounting, framing, and weight.
  • 8020 Fasteners: Various fasteners for mounting to 8020 aluminum tubing.
