A pivot from hands-on labs to hands-on CAD!

My goals for all of us (including me!) in this Onshape project...

  • we learn a skill that will help us be better inventors, designers, engineers, etc.
  • we stretch our skills of active learning and learning by doing even as we watch instructional videos
  • we develop our troubleshooting and problem solving skills to take full advantage of both classmates and an online community
  • we develop skills of demonstrating our work to colleagues in an online environment

Project Stages

  • Onshape Tutorials for the first 2 weeks
  • Define team projects that can be subdivided into individual tasks
  • Create drawings and share them with the class every other week

Project Guidelines

  • user inputs to easily modify the drawing
  • Part studios made by team members that are incorporated into the final assembly
  • Use of a wide range of Onshape features

Potential Projects

  • Part of a water or wastewater treatment plant
  • improve a design project that you are doing for another course (must let both professors know because you can't get credit for doing the same project in two courses). For those of you who are in 4590 you could do the CAD work in 4530 and the design work in 4590 and thus created a combined project that includes both design and CAD.
  • Laboratory apparatus used for one of the CEE 4530 experiments
  • Your idea here
