Graphs features
The interface displays the genomic and evolution data in the forms of several graphs, each one having his own purpose.
You will quickly notice that almost all the graphs are connected to each other. Some actions you make on one plot can be reflected instantly on the others and on the side menu as well.
Here is an example of a graph and its main components. As you can see, it is pretty straightforward.
- Title of the graph.
- Scatter plot, each dot representing a gene.
- Box, representing the extremes, quartiles and mean of the corresponding scatter plot.
- X axis label which can be grabbed with the mouse to move the graph.
- Y axis label which can be grabbed with the mouse to move the graph.
- Control panel with some useful features, explained below.
Let's now see what we can do with this.
If you pass your cursor on the dot representing a gene, each corresponding dot in the other graphs will display information as well. The gene of the side menu will also be highlighted.
This feature is design to help you to quickly see all the data for a gene, in a global way.
If you want to zoom in and out, there are two ways:
- Click on the zoom button in the control panel and then select the zone you want to zoom in by simply clicking and dragging your cursor on the graph.
- Use the zoom in and zoom out buttons of the control panel.
To move inside the graph, you can use the control panel or your mouse:
- Control panel: click on the pan button in the panel, and then click on the graph to grab it and move to the place you want.
- Mouse: click and maintain on the X or Y axis to grab it. You can then move the graph along this axis.
If you want to observe and/or highlight a set of genes in the graphs, you can use the box select or lasso select in the control panel.
Then click and maintain on the graph to draw the zone of the subset you want to highlight.
When your selection is made, the same subset is highlighted in every other graph, and selected in the side menu.
You can remove your selection by double-clicking on the graph.
To reset a graph and return its original scale and shape, click on the reset button in the control panel or double-click on the graph.
IMPORTANT: note that if you still have the cursor in a selection mode, the double click will not work. Click on the zoom or pan button to reset the graph in this way.
You can download a PNG image of a graph by using the download button of the control panel.
The raw data of all graphs can be downloaded as a single CSV file by clicking on the download raw data button, in the search form area. This button will appear after you have made a request.
