Summary of Changes

Hello @janishorsts, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request enhances the continuous integration setup by integrating Renovate Bot more deeply with Earthly builds. The primary goal is to automate the process of keeping dependency versions defined within Earthfiles up-to-date. This is achieved by configuring Renovate to recognize and manage these versions, reducing manual effort and ensuring that the project consistently uses the latest stable dependencies for its build processes.

Highlights

  • Renovate Configuration Update: A custom regex manager was added to .github/renovate.json5. This new configuration allows Renovate to specifically identify and update version arguments and environment variables (ARGs and ENVs) defined within Earthfiles.
  • Earthfile Dependency Tracking: Renovate comments (# renovate: datasource=... packageName=...) were strategically placed in Earthfile for key dependencies. This enables Renovate to automatically track and propose updates for go_version, alpine, node_version, npm, and golangci_lint_version, ensuring these dependencies remain current.

Code Review

This pull request aims to enable Renovate for automatic dependency updates in the Earthfile by introducing a custom manager. While this is a great addition, I've identified a few issues that would prevent it from working as intended. The regular expression for the custom manager has a flaw that will prevent it from matching versions. Additionally, there's a critical issue with a missing variable definition in the Earthfile that would break the build, and a couple of renovate directives are misplaced. My review provides specific suggestions to address these points.
