Project Description

This project initially started out as the Chuukese Picture Dictionary project submitted by Peace Corps Volunteers working in Micronesia with the Chuukese people (Chuuk). The Chuuks have no written language and the volunteers assigned to the community are charged with learning and helping to start with English translation for Chuuk verbal words with pictures.

Initial Features

The scope of work for this project implementation is as follows.

  • Designed with Peace Corps overall country/installation login so that all PCVs can use this application at any installation.
  • Administrative tasks for country/installation.
  • Users profile and entries for language translation

Development Environment

Languages: Ruby on Rails, Javascript

Level of Difficulty: Intermediate

Project ideas

  • Application must work offline. Application must automatically sync with the cloud database to fetch latest information whenever application is connected to the internet.
  • UI Improvements (to match Peace Corps guidelines)
  • Fixing JS related issues caused by the virtual DOM of EmberJS
  • Updating security vulnerabilities
  • Accessibility features such as voice-text transcription and so on
