fix(ui): the rail's page box fits, and the zoom field looks like a field (#5636) - #5639
The page box was cut off on its right side. The page-field code is unchanged from v0.16.1, but the rail's layout gave it one point more width than it had room for once the zoom controls changed. The page and zoom fields now use one helper, rail_field in chrome.rs, which boxes them and sizes them outright (42 pt wide, wide enough for "6400%", centred on the rail) with the same 12 pt font.
The zoom percentage has the page field's box and a brighter text colour, so it reads as a field that can be typed in. The rail is 49 pt wide (it was 48) with 1 pt side padding (it was 6), which gives the text room.
Zoom out and zoom in are two buttons side by side directly under the zoom field, replacing the two full-size buttons below the page display button. Each is half the rail's inner width (about 22 pt), leaving a pixel to the rail's edge.
The extra point of rail width moves the page by a pixel, which broke two checks that depended on exact pixels. bookmark_position counted a page showing under a pixel at the window's top as the one the reader is at, so a bookmark made right after a jump went to the previous page; it now ignores that sliver. The sidebar scroll test compared positions to under a pixel, though page rectangles snap to whole pixels, so it now allows one.
New test rail_page_and_zoom_fields_match_and_fit_the_rail checks that the two fields are the same size, sit inside the rail and are centred on it. It fails on v0.16.1's chrome.rs (31 pt against 33 pt wide) and passes now. I checked screenshots at 150% zoom in the dark and light themes. CodeRabbit reported no findings.

Anything a reviewer should look at first
The wider rail and smaller side padding move the other rail buttons by a fraction of a point; they stay centred. The bookmark_position change is outside the rail, so say if you'd rather it were its own PR.
Checked: "6400%" fits (it was cut off at 36 pt). Not checked: five-digit page numbers in the page box, a larger interface scale, and short windows. I haven't clicked the new zoom buttons in the live app.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Summary
Style
Standardized the Bookmarks rail’s page and zoom fields with matching sizing, centered text, and consistent padding.
Narrowed the rail to 49 points and placed the zoom buttons side by side beneath the zoom field.
Bug Fixes
Improved page selection at the top of the window to avoid choosing pages visible only as rounding slivers when another page is more clearly visible.
Page selection now returns no result in page-grid mode.
Tests
Added coverage for field sizing and alignment, and allowed minor page-position shifts from pixel snapping.
…eld (storytold#5636)
The page box lost its right edge to the rail. The page and zoom fields now share one helper
that boxes them and sizes them to the rail, with the same 12 pt font. Zoom out and zoom in are
small buttons side by side under the zoom field. The rail's side padding is 4 pt, not 6.

Walkthrough
The right rail now uses fixed-size page and zoom fields, with the zoom buttons beside the zoom field. Bookmark page selection uses a threshold based on the last frame’s pixels-per-point value before retrying without the threshold. Sidebar position tests allow a one-point difference.

Summary
Shared field styling and rail layout crates/ui-egui/src/chrome.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/content.rs
A shared helper renders the page and zoom inputs in fixed-size fields. The rail width and margins change, and the zoom buttons move beside the zoom field. A UI test checks field size and alignment.
Page selection and position tolerances crates/ui-egui/src/canvas.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/canvas/navigation.rs, crates/ui-egui/tests/it/view.rs
DocView stores pixels per point from the last frame. Bookmark page selection applies a one-physical-pixel visibility threshold, then retries without the threshold if no page qualifies. Sidebar collapse and reopen tests accept an absolute position difference of 1.0 point.
The rail layout and bookmark positioning changes show no established merge-blocking behavior and are suitable to merge after normal checks.

Explanation
Issue #5636 has three coding requirements. (1) The page box is cut off. The rail is now 49 pt wide with 1 pt side padding, leaving 47 pt inside. rail_field in chrome.rs sizes the page field at 42 pt, so it fits. (2) The zoom percentage has no box and dim text. rail_field now draws the zoom field with the t.field fill and t.border stroke, and the zoom text uses t.text at 12 pt. (3) Zoom out and zoom in are full-size buttons away from the zoom field. They are now two buttons of half the inner rail width, placed in a ui.horizontal block directly next to the zoom field. The new integration test rail_page_and_zoom_fields_match_and_fit_the_rail checks the field size, containment, and centring. The zoom button placement is inferred from code order, because the rail stack direction was not read directly. The code order and the original placement agree with the stated layout. This change does not alter the conclusion from the previous review.

Explanation
Most changes support #5636. The rail layout, the rail_field helper, the zoom button move, the DocView::screen_ppp field, the sliver helper, and the sidebar scroll tolerance change follow from the one-pixel shift the rail width change causes. The bookmark_position change in crates/ui-egui/src/canvas/navigation.rs adds an early if self.organize { return None; } guard. It changes how bookmarks are created in page-grid (organize) mode. This guard has no connection to the rail width, the page or zoom fields, or the zoom buttons. #5636 does not mention bookmark behavior. The PR description also states that the bookmark_position change is outside the rail. The commit message describes a separate stale-position fix for the page grid.
Resolution
Remove the if self.organize { return None; } guard and its comment from bookmark_position in crates/ui-egui/src/canvas/navigation.rs from this pull request. Keep the sliver threshold change, its screen_ppp support in canvas.rs, and its unit test, because the one-pixel shift requires them. Submit the organize-mode bookmark fix as a separate pull request linked to its own issue, with its own test.

…ition checks allow a pixel of rounding (storytold#5636)
The rail is a point wider, and its side padding is 1 pt, so the zoom out and in buttons are half
the rail's inner width each (about 22 pt) and leave a pixel to the rail's edge.
The wider rail moves the page by a pixel, which exposed two checks that depended on exact pixels:
bookmark_position counted a page showing under a pixel at the window's top as the one the reader
is at, so a bookmark made after a jump went to the previous page; and the sidebar scroll test
compared positions to under a pixel, though page rectangles snap to whole pixels.

Remove the 2.0 pt containment tolerance so the test matches its doc comment.
The doc comment says each field "sits wholly inside the rail." The assertion at line 1440 accepts up to 2.0 pt of overflow on each side, so a field clipped by up to 2.0 pt on either edge still passes. No repository source documents a need for this slack, and the commit that added the test does not state one.
Suggested fix
- assert!(r.left() >= rail.left() - 2.0 && r.right() <= rail.right() + 2.0, "{r:?} is cut off by the rail ({rail:?})");+ assert!(r.left() >= rail.left() && r.right() <= rail.right(), "{r:?} is cut off by the rail ({rail:?})");
If this assertion fails because of sub-point layout rounding, set the tolerance to one pixel at the harness scale rather than restoring 2.0.

Remove the 2.0-point overflow allowance from the containment assertion in the
test’s page-and-zoom field loop. Require each field’s left and right edges to
remain within the rail bounds, matching the “sits wholly inside the rail”
expectation.
The reopen branch states that fit-width zoom decreases, but it only checks page position. A regression could leave the zoom at the larger collapsed-panel value while still preserving page 2's position. Capture v.zoom and assert that it is lower than zoom_after.

ReviewerA — source-read COMMENT (not an approval)
I read the diff: two fixes for the rail. In navigation.rs, a page counts as showing only if it is more than a pixel inside the viewport (xf.rect.bottom() > top + 1.0), because after a jump to the next page the previous page's bottom edge stays within a pixel of the top and was counted, so the page box showed the wrong page number. In chrome.rs, a new rail_field(ui, t, edit) draws the page and zoom text fields in a frame with the field fill, a 1-point border and a corner radius of 5, sized outright at 34 by 22 (interact_size.x = 0.0 so egui's minimum control width does not widen it), with RAIL_FIELD_MARGIN; the rail's own frame margin is changed. A box that is the same size whatever it holds, and looks like a field, is better than a bare text edit (#5636). Points: a fixed 34 by 22 box breaks at larger interface scales and with long numbers such as 12345 pages or a 6400% zoom: test with both; the text field needs an accessible name (label) for the page box and the zoom box. The 1-pixel threshold in showing is a magic number: name it. I have not run it, and no exact-head CI result exists for this head, so this is a source-read comment and not an approval. Nothing was run.
I ran nothing and have no exact-head CI result for this PR, so this is not an approval. Where a diff was long I read its code hunks rather than every generated or documentation line.
…s; the rail test checks the rail's real edges (storytold#5636)
A page showing under a pixel at the window's top is ignored in favour of the next page, but still
chosen when no other page shows. The rail test no longer tolerates 2 pt of overflow: it compares the
page and zoom fields with the rail's own edges.

This test checks only that the fields have equal dimensions and fit the bounds. If the shared helper changes both fields to another equal width, the test remains green. Add an assertion for the required 36 pt rendered width, or for the corresponding inner width if rect() excludes the frame.
This follows the PR objective that the shared helper fixes the field width at 36 pt.

At 36 pt the largest zoom was cut off at the right. The fields are 42 pt, set by RAIL_FIELD_SIZE
and pinned in the rail test. The one-pixel tolerance in bookmark_position is the constant SLIVER.

…not one point (storytold#5636)
Page rectangles snap to whole physical pixels, so what counts as rounding scales with the display:
the view keeps last frame's pixels per point and the threshold is its inverse.

Thanks @FredApps. Where your points stand at the current head (9538640):
Fixed size breaking with long values: you were right about "6400%". At 34 pt it was cut off at the right. The page and zoom fields are now 42 pt wide (RAIL_FIELD_SIZE), and the rail is 49 pt. "6400%" and a five-digit page number ("12345", in a 12,345-page test file) both fit, in both themes. The rail test pins the 42 × 22 size.
Larger interface scales: checked at 300%, the largest. The interface size scales points to pixels and the rail is laid out in points, so the fields scale with everything else and still fit.
Accessible names: both fields already have them: "Current page" on the page box and "Zoom" on the zoom box. The rail test finds them by those names.
The 1-pixel threshold: now a named, scale-aware function. sliver(pixels_per_point) is one physical pixel, not one point, and a unit test pins 1x, 2x, 0.5x and invalid ratios. A bookmark made in the page grid (organize mode) now goes to the current page, since the page positions are stale there.
Rail screenshots (headless renders of the real shell): a 12,345-page file on its last page; 6400% zoom; light theme; and 300% interface size.
These renders use a short window (600 pt), and the page box sits over the bottom of the layers button. That's the short-window overlap in #2891, which #2905 addresses. I haven't compared these renders against v0.16.1.
Conflict with main's rail docking, resolved by keeping both: the rail follows the side chosen
for it (main) at 49 pt with 1 pt padding, and main's dock button stays above the page display
button, while zoom out and in stay side by side under the zoom field.
Merged, thanks for the polish and follow-up fixes! The page and zoom fields now match and fit the rail, zoom buttons sit together, and bookmarks no longer pick the previous page because of a rounding sliver. The existing short-window rail overlap remains separately tracked.
