Summary

  • Anchor one-sided changes (Kind::Deleted and Kind::Inserted) at the end of a page to the preceding word on that same page when the following word in the other document is on a later page, so Side.page and Side.near stay on the page where the change occurred rather than jumping to the next page.
  • Filter rects(words) to words matching first.page so multi-word changes spanning a page break do not merge or place later-page word boxes onto Side.page.

Validation

  • Added regression test tests::changes_at_page_boundaries_stay_on_their_own_page in crates/compare/src/lib.rs.
  • cargo test -p pdfcraft-compare
  • cargo clippy -p pdfcraft-compare --all-targets -- -D warnings
  • cargo fmt --all -- --check

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Changes that cross page boundaries are now shown as separate page-specific highlights.
    • Insertions and deletions are paired by their order across pages; unpaired portions are shown separately.
    • When one side of a change has no text on its page, its highlight is placed near a neighboring word, preferring the preceding word at the end of a page.

Walkthrough

Comparison now splits contiguous edits into page-specific runs and emits a change for each corresponding run pair. For one-sided changes, it selects a neighboring-word anchor based on page boundaries.

Changes: Page-aware comparison

Layer / File(s) Summary
Page-run comparison and anchors
crates/compare/src/lib.rs
page_runs divides edit spans into consecutive same-page runs. compare emits a separate change for each corresponding run pair. neighbour selects an anchor based on page boundaries. Tests cover page-boundary edits, changes spanning multiple pages, and differing page-number offsets.

Systems and components

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in crates/compare/src/lib.rs: Added page_runs, which splits a word-index range into contiguous runs sharing the same page.
  • observed — Modified behavior in crates/compare/src/lib.rs: Added neighbour to choose an anchor word for a one-sided change. It prefers the preceding word when the changed span is at the end of its page; otherwise it prefers the following word, falling back to the other candidate.
  • observed — Modified behavior in crates/compare/src/lib.rs: compare now gathers the indices of each edit run, splits deletions and insertions by page, pairs their page runs by position, and creates a separate Change for each pair. Unmatched runs become one-sided changes. This replaces the prior single Change per edit run and its document-end-based anchor lookup with page-aware neighbor selection.
  • observed — Modified behavior in crates/compare/src/lib.rs: Added tests for page-boundary insertions and deletions, changes spanning pages, page-number shifts between documents, and replacements whose old and new runs span different numbers of pages. The assertions check change kinds, pages, text, rectangles, and neighbor anchors.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: page-boundary changes and word boxes are kept on their own page in the compare crate. It follows the conventional-commit form and is specific, 73 characters long. The raw summary and objectives both describe anchoring one-sided changes to the preceding word on the same page and filtering rects(words) to first.page, so the title matches the changeset.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description has a Summary and a Validation section. It names the changed behavior and the regression test, and lists the cargo test, clippy and fmt commands the author ran. It leaves out several template sections: 'What this changes' has no explicit 'Fixes #' reference, the template checklist is absent (fmt, clippy, tests, xtask), the Never-crash, Provenance, Security and Parity sections are missing, and 'Anything a reviewer should look at first' is not filled in. The core content is present, so the description is mostly complete.

Resolution

Optional improvements: add an explicit issue reference if one exists, confirm that the new test fails before the fix (the template asks for this for bug fixes), mark the template checklist items, and note the positional pairing behavior that a reviewer should check first. Sections that do not apply may be deleted.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 1 files.

- Line 251: Update the boundary-selection logic using after and before to
determine the boundary from the changed document’s adjacent words, then select
the corresponding neighbor in the other document; do not equate page numbers
across documents when choosing the neighbor.
- Line 232: Update the change construction around the `words` iteration so
cross-page replacements retain rectangles for every changed page. Either split
the replacement into page-bounded `Change` values or associate each rectangle
with its page and update the UI highlighting and “Mark as comments” consumers to
use the correct page.
