…ndroid TV and Vega - tv-remote joins the auto-screenshot / auto-describe lists. - await-screen-idle supports Vega, so the readiness wait stops sleeping its full budget. - Android TV describe reads through the android-devtools helper; a running helper made every uiautomator dump die Killed. - uiautomator dumps on one device are serialized.

[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Review pass across claims vs code, nearest twin, non-happy paths, inputs, reachability, lifetime, and a mutation sweep. Four low-severity findings are below.
The stale-cache concern (the helper's getHierarchy() defaulting to clearCache:false) did not reproduce for focus on an Android TV API 34 emulator. With the helper alive, I ran 10 force-stop/relaunch cycles of TV Settings and a D-pad press after each relaunch. Every default read reported the same focused bounds as a cache-cleared read (12/12), and the same as the expected sequence when only default reads were taken (18/18). #591 flips that default class-wide.

[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: On an Apple TV simulator, every MCP tv-remote call now waits the full 1500 ms before capturing. await-screen-idle there polls describeIos(..., {isTvOs: true}), which always returns emptyTree(), and an empty tree never counts as settled. A scratch run of await-screen-idle with isTvOsSimulator mocked to true returned {settled:false, waitedMs:1503, polls:9}. The PR body acknowledges this and points at #681; noting it here because the delay map's JSDoc ("usually returns well under" the cap) is never true for this entry on tvOS.

Every Apple TV screenshot is written to $TMPDIR/argent-tv-screenshot-<udid8>-<hrtime>.png (tools/screenshot/index.ts:139-142), and nothing in the repo deletes it. With tv-remote captured, every remote press on Apple TV now leaves one more file; they were 10-600 KB each at the default scale in my run. Before this PR, only explicit screenshots, launch-app and keyboard wrote them.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Confirmed, and it is older than this PR: every backend that writes its own PNG into os.tmpdir() has it. On this machine $TMPDIR holds 380 vega-screenshot-* and 57 argent-tv-screenshot-* files, and ios-remote writes argent-remote-screenshots/<uuid>.png the same way. Nothing unlinks a registered artifact. The registry store is an in-memory map with no eviction. With tv-remote captured, the per-press rate goes up, so I filed it as #1277 rather than patching only the Apple TV path here.

A secret typed into a plain text field on a TV now shows up in the next tv-remote result. The capture of the keyboard {text: "{{secret:X}}"} call itself is skipped. On a TV, though, the next call is almost always a tv-remote to reach the submit button, with the field still on screen. That call is now captured: the field is in the screenshot, and on Android TV its text is in the focus view. The skip note does say the next call is captured, and password fields are masked, so this hits non-password fields typed outside a run-sequence. Before this PR, tv-remote was not captured at all.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Not changing this. The capture after a secret is the same on every platform: on a phone the next gesture-tap to the submit button is captured in the same way. The skip note on the keyboard call says so explicitly ("the next call is captured normally, and shows the secret if the field is still on screen") and gives the fix: put the typing and the submit in one run-sequence. run-sequence accepts tv-remote steps, so that remedy works on a TV as well.

This checks that tv-remote is in the two sets, which the loops further down already cover, and restates the 1500 constant. Nothing tests what the PR is about: that a tv-remote call through mcp-server.ts comes back with the screenshot and the --- Elements after action (describe) --- section.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Not adding an mcp-server.ts harness in this PR. The test is not redundant with the loops: they iterate the sets, so removing tv-remote from them leaves them green. I removed it from AUTO_DESCRIBE_TOOLS, and only this test failed (1/39). For tv-remote, mcp-server.ts reads only those two sets and the delay map, and that code path is shared by all 17 captured tools. mcp-server.test.ts has no call-level harness for any of them. The end-to-end check (screenshot plus --- Elements after action (describe) --- after tv-remote on all three TV platforms) was run through the real argent-mcp over stdio and is in the PR description.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
The mock returns the identical page source on every poll, so this proves routing, the capability and the adb preflight, not settling. No case covers:
- a tree that changes between polls;
- the launcher-only page source a restarted app shows before it attaches;
MultipleVegaDevicesError.
The "toolkit unreachable" case would also pass if describeVega threw, since pollDescribeTree swallows both.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Partly fixed in 00672ef. A new case alternates two page sources (one label changed) and expects settled:false after more than 2 polls, so settling now depends on the tree actually holding still. I left MultipleVegaDevicesError out: pollDescribeTree swallows every fetch error into settled:false, the same as on the other platforms, and the describe that follows rethrows it to the caller. A describeVega that throws instead of returning an empty tree is pinned by the describe Vega tests, not this file.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
The lock's comment says it exists partly because a wait that timed out leaves its dump running, but no test covers that case. All four calls here start together and run to completion. Nothing checks what happens to a dump whose caller gave up, or how long the next read then waits behind it.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Not adding one. At the lock, a dump whose caller gave up is indistinguishable from one whose caller is still waiting: withKeyedLock sees the same in-flight promise either way. The property the comment relies on is that a second dump never starts while the first is still running. The same-device test pins that with a peak concurrency of 1 (it fails with peak 4 when the lock is a pass-through). How long a later read waits behind an abandoned dump is the latency trade-off covered in the thread on uiautomator-lock.ts.

That dashboard counts machines, not sessions, so these numbers come from direct queries. - **CI:** dropped every session with `is_ci=true` (3,455 sessions). - **CLI and other non-MCP calls:** kept only events carrying `ai_client`. The MCP server forwards it on every call (`X-Argent-AI-Client`), in every version since 0.12.1. CLI and direct HTTP calls don't send it. - **Flows:** dropped calls made while a `flow-*` invocation was open in the same session. Flow steps inherit the caller's `ai_client` through `invokeSubTool`, so they can only be excluded by timing. A flow with no terminal event is treated as closing 10 minutes after it started. - **Auto-capture:** after each interaction tool, the MCP server itself calls `await-screen-idle`, `screenshot` and `describe` (`argent-mcp/src/mcp-server.ts`). Those calls start under 100 ms after the previous call finishes, while an agent's own call waits for an LLM turn. Dropped any of these three called under 300 ms after a trigger or capture tool finished in the same session, unless it was a `run-sequence` step. That covers 5.4M of 10.4M calls. A 1 s cutoff changes the totals by under 1%. - **Still counted:** `run-sequence` steps. Excluding them drops `keyboard` to 32.4%, `gesture-swipe` to 51.3% and `button` to 21.7%. - **Known blur:** one tool-server session can serve several agents at once, so a concurrent direct call that lands inside another agent's flow or capture window is excluded. </details> <details> <summary>Verification</summary> Ran an in-process MCP client against `startMcpServer` (`ARGENT_TOOLS_URL` pointed at this branch's tool-server), calling `tools/list`: | | before (`origin/main`) | after | |---|---|---| | tools with `anthropic/alwaysLoad` | 15 | 12 | | `gesture-scroll` / `gesture-drag` / `tv-remote` listed | yes, `alwaysLoad: true` | yes, `searchHint` only | Locally: `tsc --build`, `tsc -p tsconfig.test.json` (tool-server), prettier and eslint on the changed files, and vitest for tool-server, argent-mcp and argent-tools-client. #1262 edits the `tv-remote` description directly above the removed line, so whichever PR merges second may need a trivial rebase. </details>

There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Nothing bounds the whole locked section, so one stalled read can hold this lock for up to about 30 s: the adb forward (10 s timeout), then postJson (15 s, and that is a socket-idle timeout), then forward --remove (5 s). await-screen-idle passes no budget into describeVega, unlike Harmony's pollHarmonyTree(..., budgetMs). So when the toolkit accepts the connection but does not answer, the readiness wait after a tv-remote gives up at its 1500 ms cap and leaves its read holding the lock. The auto-describe that follows queues behind it, then can stall for its own 15 s. Together that comes to about 30 s, which is FETCH_TIMEOUT_MS in argent-mcp/src/tool-caller.ts, and describe is not long-running. On an abort there, argent-mcp re-sends the call up to 4 more times. The tool-server never sees the abort, so each re-send queues one more full read on this lock. Before the lock, a stalled describe came back empty with its hint after about 15 s. This was found by reading the code (vega-inspect.ts:28-32, keyed-lock.ts, tool-caller.ts); I did not run it on a VVD, and it needs a toolkit that stalls rather than refuses the connection.
…t also precedes the tree The ARGENT_AUTO_SCREENSHOT_DELAY_MS row now says the wait also runs before the element tree and is a full sleep when the settle check is unavailable.

[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: Second review pass over 5a9c0ac found no high- or medium-severity issues. It covered the same review moves as the first pass, plus 25 mutants. 2b7e9cd pins the focused marker of the settle signature (the drop-F mutant survived before it) and corrects the ARGENT_AUTO_SCREENSHOT_DELAY_MS docs row. The row now says the wait also comes before the element tree, and that it is a full sleep when the settle check fails, per awaitScreenSettled in mcp-server.ts. Two low-severity findings are inline below. Out of scope, same files: #1609 (the Android TV helper is started twice) and #885 (a reader leaks when spawnHidDaemon throws).

There was a problem hiding this comment.
[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: This reap now SIGKILLs the old in-simulator reader even while it is answering another caller's request. Before, killing simctl spawn never reached the reader, so a request already in flight still finished. The cut-off caller's sendLine gets end/close with no data and resolves "". sendJson turns that into {}, and api.describe() returns {focused: null, focusable: []} with no error. sendAx retries only on a throw, so this reads as a real empty screen. If it was that caller's last read, describe reports "No focusable elements" with EMPTY_HINT on a screen that has focus. That empty result also starts a recycle, which can cut the other caller's read in turn. The trigger is two overlapping describes on one Apple TV while one is in the empty-focus recycle: for example, argent-mcp re-sending a call after its 30 s per-attempt cap, or two sessions on one tool-server. A scratch unix-socket server that is SIGKILLed after it reads the request line gave the client end with an empty payload.

[Diplomat, Opus 5.5]: The factory (spawnAxDaemon / spawnHidDaemon at lines 268-269) spawns straight onto these per-pid paths, with no reap or unlink first, so a stale daemon is ruled out only while pids are not reused. Suppose a tool-server is SIGKILLed or crashes, so dispose never runs: its reader and HID daemon keep their -<pid>.sock paths for up to their 1 h --timeout. If a new tool-server gets the same pid within that hour and opens the same Apple TV, waitForSocket accepts the old daemon's socket as ready. The new reader then unlinks and rebinds the path. When the orphan later idles out, its cleanup() unlinks the live socket, and every later call fails with ENOENT, the outage this PR fixes. The comment above ("a daemon left by an earlier process can't unlink ours") holds only while pids are unique. Found by reading the code; reproducing it needs pid reuse within the hour.
