Description

Every AgentKit connection has its own MCP server at <environment URL>/mcp/v3/connections/<connection name>. It serves all of that connection's tools without an MCP configuration. create_session_token can now mint a token for that server: pass the new keyword-only connection_name instead of mcp_config_id.

# client.actions.mcp: returns CreateMcpSessionTokenResponse
@overload
def create_session_token(self, mcp_config_id: str, identifier: str,
                         expiry: timedelta | None = None, access_level: str | None = None): ...
@overload
def create_session_token(self, *, connection_name: str, identifier: str,
                         expiry: timedelta | None = None, access_level: str | None = None): ...

# client.mcp: same arguments, returns the raw (response, call) tuple like the rest of that client

Behaviour:

  • Connection token: connection_name is sent as the request's key_id, and mcp_config_id is never set. expiry and access_level are sent only when given, so the server defaults apply: 1 hour, full access.
  • Access level: access_level="READ_ONLY" limits the token to tools marked read-only. Other tools are left out of tools/list, and calling one returns unknown tool "<name>".
  • Connection name: matched without regard to case, but the token is issued for the URL built from the stored name. That URL path is case-sensitive, so connect with the name exactly as stored.
  • Validation, connection calls only: passing both mcp_config_id and connection_name, an empty connection_name, or a missing or empty identifier raises ValueError before any request.
  • Config calls: existing calls with mcp_config_id, positional or keyword, behave exactly as in v2.20.0. They send the same request, and client.actions.mcp raises the same ValueError messages.
  • Errors from the server:
    • ScalekitNotFoundException: no active connection with that name.
    • ScalekitBadRequestException: invalid input, a connection that isn't an AgentKit connection, or, depending on the environment's configuration, no active connected account for the identifier.

Usage

from datetime import timedelta

resp = client.actions.mcp.create_session_token(
    connection_name="gmail",
    identifier="user_123",
    expiry=timedelta(minutes=15),
    access_level="READ_ONLY",
)
headers = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {resp.token}"}
# connect to <environment URL>/mcp/v3/connections/gmail with these headers

Testing

  • make lint: passes.
  • tests/test_mcp_connection_session_token.py: 34 credential-free tests with mocked transport, all passing. They cover:
    • both call forms on both clients;
    • the request fields that are set;
    • expiry and access_level forwarding;
    • connection_name being keyword-only;
    • invalid connection arguments;
    • v2.20.0 behaviour of config calls, including pass-through on client.mcp and the exact error messages on client.actions.mcp;
    • server errors propagating.
  • Type checking: mypy accepts every existing call form and rejects passing both targets, or a connection without an identifier.
  • tests/test_mcp_session_token_access_level.py and the offline suites pass.
  • Live integration tests were not run locally; CI's live suite runs them. tests/test_mcp.py mints READ_ONLY for a connection, expects ScalekitNotFoundException for an unknown one, and covers the positional config form.

Release

No release (skip-release). The notes wait in .changes/unreleased:

client.actions.mcp.create_session_token(connection_name=..., identifier=...) mints a session token for a connection's own MCP server (<environment URL>/mcp/v3/connections/<connection name>), which serves all of that connection's tools without an MCP configuration. Pass exactly one of mcp_config_id or the new keyword-only connection_name; expiry and access_level work for both, and access_level="READ_ONLY" limits the token to read-only tools. The URL path is case-sensitive, so connect with the connection's name exactly as stored. Existing calls with mcp_config_id, positional or keyword, are unchanged. client.mcp.create_session_token takes the same arguments and returns the raw (response, call) tuple.

* chore(release): release tool, release.toml and seeded CHANGELOG

Vendored from scalekit-sdks-wrapper/tools/release. The matching
workflow changes (release-checks.yml, release.yml, build.yml
workflow_call) ship in a separate commit because they need a push
credential with the GitHub 'workflow' scope.

* chore(release): drive releases from scalekit-sdks-wrapper

The release tool and its config now live only in the wrapper
(tools/release). This repo keeps CHANGELOG.md and .changes/unreleased/
(release notes waiting for the next release).

* ci(release): approval-gated release workflow

- release.yml (workflow_dispatch, version input): validates the version
  against the source, the tags and CHANGELOG.md; reuses build.yml as CI;
  builds; waits for the 'release' environment approval; tags with the
  release app; publishes; creates the GitHub Release from the CHANGELOG;
  verifies the registry. dry_run rehearses without tagging or publishing.
- build.yml: add workflow_call so the release reuses the exact PR CI.

Restores .github/workflows as on main: releases keep using the existing

Add create_connection_session_token to client.mcp and
client.actions.mcp. It mints a session token for the MCP server of one
connection, identified by connection name, with the same optional
expiry and access level as create_session_token. Existing methods are
unchanged.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Describe the no-active-account case as configuration-dependent, note
that connection_name is matched against the stored name including case,
and state that expires_at on the parsed response is a naive UTC datetime.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The connection is matched without regard to case and the token is issued
for the MCP server URL built from the stored name; only that URL is
case-sensitive.

Use one example across docstrings, AGENTKIT.md and the release note, and
list the bad-request cases in the AGENTKIT.md entry.

Fold the connection case into create_session_token on both McpClient and
client.actions.mcp: pass exactly one of mcp_config_id or the new
keyword-only connection_name (sent as key_id). Existing positional and
keyword calls with mcp_config_id are unchanged. Both/neither target, a
blank target or a missing identifier raise ValueError before any request.
Typing overloads describe the two valid call shapes, and McpClient's
return annotation now matches the (response, call) tuple it returns.

Remove create_connection_session_token, which was never released.

Use typing.Optional and typing.Tuple instead of PEP 604 unions and
built-in generics, and show client.mcp.create_session_token's tuple
return type in AGENTKIT.md.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Limit the new client-side checks to the connection form of
create_session_token. With mcp_config_id and no connection_name:

- client.mcp builds the request from the arguments as given, as before:
  an empty, whitespace or None config ID and an empty identifier go to
  the server. A private sentinel default for mcp_config_id lets an
  explicit None still reach the server; only a call that passes neither
  mcp_config_id nor connection_name raises ValueError.
- client.actions.mcp keeps its previous checks and messages
  ("mcp_config_id is required", "identifier is required").

With connection_name: passing mcp_config_id too, an empty
connection_name, or a missing or empty identifier raises ValueError
before any request; a whitespace name or identifier goes to the server.

Annotations in the changed code use X | None and tuple[...] again, since
the package already requires Python 3.10.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
When the environment does not require an active connected account, the
server creates a pending connected account for the identifier before
minting a connection session token. Say so in the create_session_token
docstrings and AGENTKIT.md.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The server reuses the identifier's existing connected account on the
connection and creates a pending one only when there is none. Say so in
the create_session_token docstrings and AGENTKIT.md.
