Problem

The AgentKit docstrings disagree with the AgentKit guides on the two parameters nearly every call takes:

  • identifier: the docstrings describe it as an email or a "connected account identifier", with examples like alice@example.com. The guides say to use a stable internal user ID and never an email address.
  • connection_name: the docstrings call it a "connector identifier" or a slug. It's actually the connection name shown in AgentKit > Connections.

The docs site's new AgentKit REST reference (scalekit-inc/developer-docs#1060) shows these docstrings next to each endpoint, so right now it would repeat the contradiction.

Changes

  • Wording: every actions and tools method that takes identifier or connection_name now uses the guides' wording. The MCP examples now use user_123.
  • execute_tool:
    • identifier and connection_name are documented separately.
    • The docstring says the account must be ACTIVE, otherwise the call fails with INVALID_ARGUMENT.
  • delete_connected_account and get_connected_account: the identifier + connection_name pair is only required when connected_account_id isn't passed. The old docstrings marked both as always required.
  • Summaries: get_authorization_link, get_connected_account, list_scoped_tools and search_tools now say what each one does.

Only docstrings change; code behavior is the same.

Testing

  • python -m compileall -q scalekit tests passes.
  • I ran the docs site's extractor over the changed files; every parameter description parses.
  • unittest for test_actions.py errors the same way on unmodified main in this environment because the tests need a configured environment. CI has one.

…ides do

The AgentKit docstrings called `identifier` an email or "connected account
identifier" and `connection_name` a "connector identifier" or slug. The
guides tell developers to pass a stable internal user ID, never an email,
and the connection name shown in AgentKit > Connections. Use that wording
in every actions and tools method that takes these parameters, and change
the MCP examples from alice@example.com to user_123.

Also:
- execute_tool: document identifier and connection_name separately, and
say the account must be ACTIVE or the call fails with INVALID_ARGUMENT.
- delete_connected_account and get_connected_account: the pair is only
required when connected_account_id is not passed.
- Summaries for get_authorization_link, get_connected_account,
list_scoped_tools and search_tools say what each does.

Docstrings only; no behavior change.

Walkthrough

Action and tool API documentation now describes identifiers as stable internal user IDs assigned by the application. It clarifies connection-name terminology and updates examples. No function signatures or executable logic changed.

Changes

Identifier and Connection Guidance

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update API identifier guidance
scalekit/actions/actions.py, scalekit/tools.py
The documentation describes identifiers as stable internal app user IDs and connection names as AgentKit connection names. It also documents the active-account requirement for execute_tool, clarifies connected-account lookup options, and updates MCP examples.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to ec69a

This documentation-only change may prompt existing MCP integrations to replace their identifier, making accounts linked under the old value unavailable. Clarify that existing users should preserve the identifier they connected with, or provide migration guidance; the remaining changes present no identified material risk.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 63cc5

The SDK’s account and tool access paths do not change, and no introduced security issue was verified. The updated guidance does describe identity and authorization behavior whose service-side guarantees could not be confirmed.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The guidance is relevant to integrations that select a user’s connected accounts or mint MCP session tokens, but the inspected changes add no SDK entrypoint, credential authority, or executable account-selection path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The SDK forwards account selectors to service requests rather than locally checking account ownership, selector precedence, or ACTIVE status. The inspected source cannot establish what checks the services perform.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Confirm the service contract for inactive-account errors, account-ID authorization and selector precedence before treating the new recovery and ID-only wording as guaranteed behavior.

Tried the AgentKit actions/tools docstrings this change rewrites for identifier and connection_name.

After this ships, Python callers (and the docs site that extracts these strings) get the same guidance as the AgentKit guides: stable user IDs and connection names from the dashboard.

Requests

  1. Finish the same wording on the spots still using the old language — verify_connected_account_user's identifier param, and list_connected_accounts's connection_names text that still says “slugs” and “connectors”. (actions.py)

Open questions (not blocking)

  • CodeRabbit asked to allow email again on the MCP identifier docs; leave the guide-aligned “not an email” line as-is?
  • Worth mirroring the ACTIVE / INVALID_ARGUMENT note from ActionClient.execute_tool onto ToolsClient.execute_tool so the two Python entry points agree?

- verify_connected_account_user: identifier is the same stable app user ID
  used for the authorization link.
- list_connected_accounts: connection_names takes connection names from
AgentKit > Connections, up to 20, and can't be combined with
connection_name; provider is a provider key.
- ToolsClient.execute_tool: same ACTIVE / INVALID_ARGUMENT note as
  ActionClient.execute_tool.

Thanks. These are in ec69ac2.

Request

  1. Both spots now use the same wording as the rest of the PR:
    • verify_connected_account_user: identifier is your app's ID for the signed-in user, the same value you used when you created the authorization link. It asks for a stable internal ID, not an email address.
    • list_connected_accounts:
      • connection_names now takes connection names as shown in AgentKit > Connections, and no longer mentions slugs or connectors. It also says the list takes up to 20 names and can't be combined with connection_name. Both limits come from the API's validation rules (max_items: 20, and connector and connection_names are mutually exclusive).
      • provider now reads "provider key", matching list_tools.

Open questions

  • Email: I'm keeping "not an email address". The AgentKit guides tell developers to use a stable internal ID, because an email can change, and the docstrings should give the same advice.
  • ToolsClient.execute_tool: done. It now carries the same ACTIVE / INVALID_ARGUMENT note as ActionClient.execute_tool, so the two entry points agree.

build failed on ec69ac2 in one test, test_domain.TestDomain.test_list_domains_with_organization_domain_type. The failure doesn't come from this PR:

  • The test creates a domain with a random Faker().domain_name(). On this run the API rejected it with DISPOSABLE_OR_PUBLIC_EMAIL ("you can not add a disposable or public email domain").
  • This PR changes only docstrings in scalekit/actions/actions.py and scalekit/tools.py, not domain.py or the tests. The same suite passed on the previous commit, 63cc5ff.
  • Whether the test fails depends on which domain Faker picks, so any of the test_domain.py tests can fail this way on any PR.

I've re-run the failed job once.

A fix that doesn't depend on chance would give every test in tests/test_domain.py a unique domain that isn't on the public-email list, for example:

import uuid
domain_name = f"{Faker().domain_word()}-{uuid.uuid4().hex[:8]}.com"

That belongs in its own PR rather than this docstring change.
