Inconsistent Dock behavior with dual screen devices to single screen dock. #459

Description

@Nizeluma

Device Information

  • Device: Ayn Thor
  • Android Version: Android 13
  • Argosy Version: 2.17.0-beta.2

Bug Description

Assume Dual-Screen Mode is on
Assume Pause While Docked is on
Depending on the chosen screen layout, docking the Thor causes the screen management to not display information on the correct screens. Sometimes it can make navigation difficult when docked at a TV. It also causes the game to launch on the wrong screen. Manually setting the re-selecting screen layout settings after docked (not possible if the screens are off or the Thor is closed) can get the desired behavior. However, the bug activates again if the Thor is removed from the dock, then re-docked.

Steps to Reproduce

Unless stated...
Assume Dual-Screen Mode is on
Assume Pause While Docked is on
Screen 1 will refer to the top screen on the Thor
Screen 2 will refer to the bottom screen on the Thor
Screen 3 will refer to the external screen attached to the dock via HDMI.
Testing done on the retroid docking station.

(Side note with screen layout. If the Screen layout configurator is on Screen 1 in handheld mode Screen 2 is not visible in the layout. It is selectable, and the menu shows its current setting. That is how I know what it is set to show.)

Configuration 1 - Handheld Mode
Handheld mode screen layout

  1. Set Screen 1 Primary
  2. Screen 2 Presentation
Shows as expected, game selector up top and game info on the bottom.
    image

Game launches up top as expected and game time tracking with app launcher shows on the bottom screen as expected.
image

Configuration 1 - Docked Mode
3. From the Argosy Home scree, place the Thor on a dock. (Normally I would have the Android Settings > Thor settings > Turn off handheld console's screens = On, however to troubleshoot this, I needed that setting off.)
Docking has the same screen layout on all displays. Strange but not breaking in its self.
image

Launching a game puts the game on Screen 2 of the Thor. Screens 1 and 3 get the Play time tracker and app launcher.
image

Using Start+Select to exit the emulator switches to a different layout. Game details are on Screen 1 and 3 now. And, the game selector is on Screen 2.
image

Checking the Screen Layout now shows...
Screen 1 Primary
Screen 2 App Screen
Screen 3 Presentation.
And the Screen Layout configurator shows up on Screen 3.
image

  1. Manually settings screen 1 to Primary again (what is already selected) Will alter the screen layout.
    image

Now back to the expected layout where navigation can be done only with Screen 3 as needed and games launch on screen 3 as desired.

image

Exiting the game works as expected, keeping the same layout.
image

  1. Removing the system from the Dock, and placing it back on the dock causes it to bug out again.

Expected Behavior

  1. When using Dual-Screen Mode is on, and Pause While Docked is on, the system should be navigable from Screen 3 only, and games should launch on Screen 3.
  2. Undocking the devices and re-docking it, should not reset those settings.

Actual Behavior

  1. Docking the device requires screen 1 and screen 2 to be visible for navigation.
  2. Docking the device before re-applying the existing selected settings is required to get the game to defaultly launch on screen 3, the dock attached external display.

Additional Context

Keep up the awesome work! All things considered, I think this is coming along nicely. I'm happy to be working on this with you.
