2.17.0-bata.1 - "Pause While Docked" toggle is non-functional. #450

Description

@Nizeluma

Device Information

  • Device: Ayn Thor
  • Android Version: Android 13 (ayn version: 1.0.0.377)
  • Argosy Version: 2.17.0-bata.1

Bug Description

The "Pause While Docked" toggle is non-functional.

  1. The toggle shows as on. I'm not able to turn it off or on.
  2. This appears to not be performing the function listed by the descriptive text. "Turn the second screen off while a television is connected, and back on when it is unplugged.

This has been tested with the following docking stations.

  1. Steam Deck Official Dock by valve.
  2. Selore USB-C Hub HDMI Adapter 8-in-1 USB-C Video Hub 4K@60Hz USB-C Dongle - Model: SEUC0424
  3. Retroid Official Dock for the Retroid pocket line.
  4. Dell Performance Dock - WD19DCS :: A note about he dell dock. The options in "Start > Settings > Android Settings > Thor settings > (Video Output) Turn off handheld console's screen" If set to on, will not turn off the Thor's built in screens when docked into the dell dock. (Not an Argosy issue) This settings is however respect properly when using the other docks I have tested and listed above.

Steps to Reproduce

The following was done on a dual screen device, Ayn Thor.

  1. Navigate to Start
  2. Navigate to Settings
  3. Navigate to Android Settings
  4. Navigate to Thor settings
  5. Navigate to (Video Output) Turn off handheld console's screen" and turn the setting off. This is needed as when the Thor is docked and the internal screens turn off, it becomes impossible to navigate the system. Currently Argosy has issues with default outputting to an external/docked display in a manor that allows for system navigation.
  6. From the Argosy home screen press start to bring up the menu.
  7. Navigate to settings.
  8. Navigate to Displays.
  9. Ensure the "Enable Dual-screen Mode" toggle is set to on. If not, turn it on.
  10. See the "Pause While Docked" toggle is already on.
  11. Try to turn the "Pause While Docked" toggle off, nothing will happen.
  12. Place the Thor on a doc.
    - The system screens will all still be active.
    - The system will make some adjustments based on display settings.
    - The external display (Display 3) is normally a black screen with the time and battery icon in the upper right corner.
  13. Launching a game doesn't launch on the external display. It depends on the display configuration if it will launch on on of the internal displays. Or get stuck with 2 or 3 screens showing the Argosy game play time tracker.

Expected Behavior that you expected to happen.

  1. The "Pause While Docked" toggle should toggle.
  2. I think it should change Argosy to "single screen" mode temporary while docked, displaying the launcher output, and any launched game on the external display.

Actual Behavior that actually happened.

  1. The toggle is always on.
  2. If the Thor Setting for "Turn off handheld console's screen" is turned on, the device is unusable until removed from the dock. As you can't see what you are doing to navigate.
  3. If the Thor Setting for "Turn off handheld console's screen" is turned off, the device uses all screens when docked. However navigation is only possible when looking at the device screens.
  4. Even if a display configuration is found that kinda works, that configuration is lost when un-docking.

N/A unless requested.

Additional Context

The display configuration editor is neat. However, in this bata it's not solving the issue yet. Regardless of display configuration, I have not been able to both navigate and then play a game using only the external display when docked. Several configurations result in the Game Play Time Tracker lockout.
I don't know if this is a limitation of android and how it handles multiple or external displays.

  • Game Play Time Tracker Lockout
This is another issue, though I think there might be some relation. I will have to do more testing to write up another bug for this one when I get the time.
Depending on display configuration. When launching a game I have seen issues where the game play time tracker will show on all of the screens and can't be exited. Sometimes the emulator might launch in the background some times it wont launch at all. When this happens the device will also fail to respond to controller and touch inputs, though the clock will continue to count. There have been multiple hard device reboots as a result. Using the PPSSPP standalone emulator and the Start+Select hotkey combo to exit the emulator also reliable causes the GPTTL. Using the menu exit with PPSSPP standalone sometimes causes it, but not reliably. I have also seen the GPTTL with Retroarch standalone and Game Native. I haven't tested with other emulators.
