…nk holiday week The fortnightly roll-forward from robbrad#2213 gives a date the council will not collect on whenever the inferred date falls in a week with a bank holiday, because Vale of White Horse moves collections on every one of them. The scraper now infers only when the Monday to Friday of that week is holiday free, using the existing is_holiday() helper, and otherwise leaves the bin out until the page shows the real, rescheduled date. Adds unit tests for the roll-forward, the bank holiday and Christmas cases, the year boundary and a rescheduled date read from the page.

Rolling through a holiday week to a later date is deliberate: the holiday shifts the collections of its own week and the fortnight then resumes on the usual day, so only the week the inferred date lands in is checked.
…ecember dates seen in January as last year's Christmas slippage outlasts the bank holidays. The council's 2026/27 leaflet revises every collection from 25 December to 15 January, two days late until 9 January and one day late the week after, and 2025/26 returned to normal on 12 January; no bank holiday falls in those January weeks, so the week check alone still inferred wrong dates there. Inference is now also withheld from 24 December to 17 January. Easter needs nothing extra: Good Friday's week and Easter Monday's week each slip by a day and each holds its own holiday. Separately, the page carries no year, and in early January it still shows the December date of the current fortnight; parsed with the current year that was a collection eleven months ahead, returned as genuine. A page date more than six months away now belongs to last year, which puts it in the past where the roll-forward, and the Christmas rule, then apply.

Thanks for your thorough work addressing my concern @dpage I wanted to add that South Oxfordshire Council uses the same "BINZONE" web app as VoWH and so this and your previous change could be applied here too. |
…oliday or Christmas week The page publishes the current fortnight's pair of collections rather than the next occurrence of each bin, so a past date is rolled forward by 14 days. That's wrong when the roll-forward lands in a week the council collects on a different day - which only the page knows. Skip publishing a guess for a bank-holiday week (checked with the existing is_holiday()) or the 24 Dec-17 Jan slippage period, where the council's leaflet shows collections running one to two days late well past the last holiday. Also fixes a separate bug: the page carries no year, so in early January it still shows the current fortnight's December date, which parsed as this year's December was returned as eleven months away. A page date more than six months ahead is now read as last year's. Credit: dpage (#2229). Follows up on #2213.

Thanks for the thorough writeup and test coverage — the holiday/Christmas-slippage reasoning and the December-seen-in-January fix are both good catches. Folded into the next release PR in #2241 with credit. Closing this one out. Generated by Claude Code |
Follows up on #2213, where @sammort pointed out that the fortnightly roll-forward gave 31 August, a bank holiday. Vale of White Horse moves collections on every bank holiday (changes to collection days), so any inferred date in such a week will be wrong, and only the council page knows the rescheduled day.
The roll-forward is now conditional: a past date is advanced by 14 days as before, but the bin is left out until the page catches up, rather than publishing a guess, when the date lands somewhere the council collects late:
is_holiday()); the council's 2026/27 leaflet shows each single holiday shifting only its own week, and Easter's two weeks each contain their own holiday, so only the week the date lands in is checked and rolling through a holiday week to a later date is fine;Dates the page states outright, including rescheduled ones, are returned as they are.
Also fixes an older problem in the same place: the page carries no year, and in early January it still shows the December date of the current fortnight, which parsed with the current year was a collection eleven months ahead, returned as genuine. A page date more than six months away is now read as last year's.
Unit tests cover the plain roll-forward, the 31 August case from the issue, rolling through a holiday week to a normal one, Christmas week, the January slippage weeks, a December date seen in January, and a rescheduled date read from the page.
