Description

The previous Renovate config disabled all updates on release branches (enabled: false without matchUpdateTypes), then tried to selectively re-enable minor, patch, and digest updates via subsequent rules. This did not work because Renovate skips dependencies entirely before determining the update type when enabled: false matches — so the re-enable rules never had anything to match against. All deps showed skipReason: "disabled" with zero updates found.

This replaces the three rules (disable-all, re-enable minor/patch, re-enable digest) with a single rule that only disables major updates on release branches. Minor, patch, and digest updates are now implicitly allowed.

How to test changes / Special notes to the reviewer

After merging, trigger a Renovate run and check the logs for release-2.1 / release-1.10 branches. Dependencies should no longer show skipReason: "disabled", and Renovate should create PRs for minor/patch/digest updates targeting those branches.

The previous Renovate config disabled all updates on release branches
then tried to selectively re-enable minor, patch, and digest updates.
This did not work because Renovate's `enabled: false` without
`matchUpdateTypes` skips dependencies entirely before determining the
update type, so the re-enable rules never matched anything — all deps
showed skipReason: "disabled" with zero updates found.

Replace the three rules (disable-all, re-enable minor/patch, re-enable
digest) with a single rule that only disables major updates on release
branches. Minor, patch, and digest updates are now implicitly allowed.

High-Level Assessment

The targeted major-only rule is the simplest fit. The previous blanket disable followed by re-enable rules was ineffective because disabled dependencies were skipped before their update types could be matched.

Block only major updates on release branches

• Replaces the blanket release-branch disable and two re-enable rules with a single rule matching major updates. Minor, patch, and digest updates are no longer disabled by these package rules.
