Being an amateur writer made me realize some of the problems that writers have to go through. As a result I am building a series of projects to help writers alleviate some of those. This is the second project in the series(First being Plotto. I will probably build a few more projects in this series in the future. This wiki is to help the users to get familiar with this project.
- For Windows users: Download The zip file and extract it some place convenient. This will create a folder named Release which contains a file named tarot_stories.exe. Double click the file to run it.
For Linux users: Download the tarball and extract it somewhere convenient. The extracted files will be contained in a folder named bundle which contains the file named tarot_stories. You can double click this file to run it. you can also run it from the terminal if you are that way inclined by issuing the command ./tarot_stories.
-
Once the app is running you will see the home page which looks like this:
-
You will notice a round Floating Action Button at the bottom right corner. Click it to create a new project. A grid tile will appear as shown in the next image: .
-
As you can see the the tile shows the name of the project as 'no name'. Its time to correct that. We'll call our new project 'Project 1' or whatever you want to call it. To do so long press on the text as shown next: An in place editor has been opened. Go ahead and rename the project and press enter when done.
-
Now we'll see what we have in our newly created project. Click the tile - It will open the project page:
-
This page shows the various elements of a story. eg. Characters, Structure etc. For this example we will be creating a character. Click on the + icon next to Characters, and click the chevron on the right to expand the tile. Like before it is named 'no name'. Long press, edit, press enter like before.
-
Now it's time to add a layout. You can add as many as you like. click the 3 dots icon at the right. it will bring up a pop up menu with spreads that are appropriate for that element. Long press, edit, press enter as before to rename.
-
Let's see what cards have been generated for us. Click the tile. This will open the readings page as follows- Since we had chosen Goal-Motivation-Conflict we have 3 cards numbered 0, 1, and 2. On the right side is a text editor that has the pre-generated text with appropriate card number. Bring the mouse over any card. A tool tip for that card is shown containing hints. Now click on any card to flip it.
-
add your readings under the appropriate heading in the editor. This is a WYSIWYG editor so you can format the text as well.
-
Let's go back and add a structure. Press the back button on top.
