Validation note (2026-10-24): this fork PR is the fresh upstream-based attempt; the upstream-linked TanStack#1321 remains a separate draft. The patch contains the clamp retry, regression tests, Marko E2E, and changeset. The head has no reported workflow/status checks, so focused typecheck, anchor-end test, scroll-trace snapshot, and Marko E2E are still unverified. Please keep it draft until those exact-head checks pass. |

Superseded fork mirror. The active review source of truth is TanStack/virtual#1321. This fork PR duplicated the same implementation and created two open review threads. Closed to remove the duplicate from the open list; the branch and commit history are preserved and may be reused if upstream requests changes. Do not merge both PRs.
