fix(docs): find image sizes for query URLs, paths with spaces and read errors - #456
Follow-up to #443, fixing the three CodeRabbit findings left open on it. In each case an image could silently lose its width and height, which brings back the layout shift #443 removed.
Finding
Cause
Fix
A src with a query or fragment (/a.png?v=2) missed its size
Lookup by the exact src
Look up by the path before ? or #; the src in the HTML is unchanged
A checkout path with a space found no images
The public directory came from URL.pathname, which keeps %20
It comes from import.meta.dirname, a real path in Vite and Vitest (fileURLToPath fails under Vitest, where import.meta.url is not a file: URL)
A read error was swallowed, so the build could emit images without sizes
try/catch around the whole walk
Only a missing directory is skipped (existsSync); any other error fails the build
No docs page uses a query string or has an unreadable image today, so the built site doesn't change. CI checks out to a path without spaces.
How it was verified
New tests: a src with ?v=2#x gets its size, a broken symlink in public/ throws instead of being skipped, a directory whose path has a space is read, and a missing directory gives no sizes. The first two failed before the fix.
Images with query strings or fragments now use the dimensions registered for their base image path, preserving correct sizing.
Documentation builds now continue when an image directory is missing, while reporting errors when image files cannot be read instead of silently suppressing them.
Paths containing spaces are handled when reading image dimensions.
…d errors
Three gaps in the image sizes from #443, found in its review:
- A src with a query or fragment (`/a.png?v=2`) missed its size; the
lookup now uses the path.
- The public directory came from `URL.pathname`, which keeps `%20` for a
space, so a checkout path with a space found no images. It now comes
from `import.meta.dirname`.
- Any error while reading the images was swallowed, so the build could
emit images without sizes. Only a missing directory is skipped now.
readImageSizes returns an empty result for a missing directory and propagates errors from traversal or file reads. The image renderer uses the base image path for dimension lookups when the source includes a query string or fragment.

readImageSizes skips traversal for a missing directory and no longer suppresses traversal or file-read errors. Tests cover paths with spaces, missing directories, and broken symlinks. The build derives the public directory path from import.meta.dirname.
The renderer removes query strings and fragments before looking up image dimensions. A test verifies that /images/a.png?v=2#x uses the size entry for /images/a.png.
An inaccessible public-image directory can silently omit image dimensions instead of failing the build. Correct the directory check; the remaining risk is narrow.

Propagate errors from the directory check.
If dir points through an inaccessible directory or a symlink loop, existsSync returns false. readImageSizes then returns an empty map instead of propagating the error. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Use statSync for the initial check and suppress only ENOENT. Keep traversal errors outside that catch.
