About NAPCORE Store

NAPCORE Store is a publicly accessible web application that helps implementors discover tools for working with mobility data in the European context. The platform serves as a central catalogue advertising the existence of relevant tools, libraries, validators, converters, and other utilities that support European mobility data standards and specifications.

The store will feature both tools developed within the NAPCORE project and valuable tools created by the broader mobility data community, regardless of their origin.

Vision & Goals

Europe's mobility data ecosystem relies on various standards (DATEX II, NeTEx, SIRI, GTFS, TN-ITS, and others) and requires numerous tools to work effectively with this data. However, finding the right tool for a specific task can be challenging and time-consuming.

Our goals:

  • Discoverability: Make it easy to find relevant tools quickly
  • Accessibility: Provide clear descriptions and links to all advertised tools
  • Community Building: Connect tool authors with users and foster collaboration
  • European Focus: Prioritize tools relevant to European mobility data standards and regulations
  • Openness: Prefer open-source tools that enable transparency and collaboration

Features

The NAPCORE Store will provide:

  • Categorized Browsing: Tools organized by type, standard, and use case
  • Full-Text Search: Quick discovery of tools by keywords and descriptions
  • Tool Descriptions: Clear explanations of what each tool does, which standards it supports, and how to access it
  • Links & Resources: Direct access to repositories, documentation, and project pages
  • Filters: Search by data standard (DATEX II, NeTEx, SIRI, etc.), tool type (validator, converter, etc.), and other criteria

Who Is This For

NAPCORE Store serves anyone working with mobility data in Europe:

  • Data Publishers: Those providing traffic, public transport, or other mobility data through National Access Points (NAPs) or other channels
  • NAP Operators: Organizations running National Access Points and supporting data providers
  • Developers & Integrators: Building applications and services that consume or process mobility data
  • Standardization Experts: Working with European mobility data standards and specifications
  • Transport Authorities: Managing data collection, quality, and publication
  • Service Providers: Creating journey planning, traffic information, and other mobility services
  • Open Source Contributors: Developing tools for the mobility data ecosystem

Technical Approach

NAPCORE Store will be built as a statically generated website to ensure:

  • Performance: Fast loading and responsive user experience
  • Simplicity: Easy to maintain and deploy
  • Searchability: Full-text search capabilities
  • Accessibility: Works everywhere, no complex backend requirements

Considered Technologies:

  • Static site generator: VitePress (under evaluation)
  • Hosting: GitHub Pages or similar static hosting
  • Content: Markdown-based tool descriptions
  • Search: Client-side full-text search

Current Status

Development Phase: v1
Expected Release: End of 2025

We are currently:

  • Finalizing the web application architecture and technology choices
  • Researching existing tools to include in the initial catalogue
  • Defining criteria for tool inclusion and categorization
  • Establishing content maintenance processes
  • Gathering community input on tool suggestions

Roadmap

v1 (Q4 2025)

  • Initial web application with core features (categories, search, tool descriptions)
  • Initial content catalogue with essential tools
  • Basic categorization and search functionality

v2 (May 2026)

  • Enhanced web application based on v1 feedback
  • Expanded content catalogue
  • Formal deliverable: D5.2.3 report in NAPCORE project

v3 (May 2027)

  • Further improvements to web application
  • Comprehensive tool catalogue
  • Refined categorization and advanced search features

Maintenance Phase (through December 2027)

  • Regular content updates
  • Tool catalogue maintenance
  • Final deliverable: D5.2.2 report with complete toolset (December 2027)

How You Can Help

🎯 We Need Your Input!

Are you an author or user of tools relevant to European mobility data? We want to hear from you!

Please help us by:

  1. Suggesting Tools: Share tools you know about in our Tool Suggestions discussions
  2. Describing Your Tools: If you've created a relevant tool, tell us about it!
  3. Providing Feedback: Help us shape what the NAPCORE Store should be
  4. Discussing Scope: Join conversations about which tools should be included

What tools are we looking for?

  • Data validators (DATEX II, NeTEx, SIRI, TN-ITS, GTFS, etc.)
  • Format converters and transformers
  • Version upgrade utilities
  • Reference implementations
  • SDKs and libraries for mobility data standards
  • Development tools and frameworks
  • Data quality assessment tools
  • Testing and debugging utilities
  • Documentation generators
  • Any other tools supporting European mobility data workflows

Criteria we're considering:

  • Relevance to European mobility data standards and specifications
  • Active maintenance or proven stability
  • Clear documentation and usage instructions
  • Preferably (but not exclusively) open source
  • Demonstrated value to the mobility data community

How to Contribute

  1. Browse existing discussions to see what's already been suggested
  2. Create a new discussion in the Tool Suggestions category
  3. Include key information: tool name, description, link, standards supported, license
  4. Engage with others: Comment on and upvote tool suggestions

Project Organization

NAPCORE Store is developed as part of NAPCORE Task 5.2 "Tools" within the broader NAPCORE project.

About NAPCORE

NAPCORE (National Access Point Coordination Organisation for Europe) is a Programme Support Action co-financed by the European Commission's Connecting Europe Facility. The project works on improving interoperability of National Access Points (NAPs) as the backbone of European mobility data exchange.

Task 5.2: Tools

Task 5.2 has two main responsibilities:

  1. Tool Development: Identify, develop, and maintain tools for working with mobility data (to be published under open source licenses)
  2. NAPCORE Store: Develop and operate this web platform to advertise relevant tools to implementors

The work is organized in two parallel work items:

  • StoreWeb: Developing the web application platform
  • StoreWeb/Content: Researching, collecting, and maintaining the tool catalogue content

GitHub Organization

All NAPCORE Task 5.2 development happens in the napcore-tools GitHub organization.

Currently most repositories are private while we organize our work. This repository (web-napcore_store) is intentionally public to engage with the broader mobility data community.
