• I don't have a ton of time to work on napari-matplotlib, can you self-merge stuff? If not I'd be happy to set you up with permissions to do so
• Might be worth up dependabot to automate these updates?

Sure I'm happy to. And yes, dependabot taking care of this would be nice. I'll have a look in the settings.

Cycle of problems: a wild mypy error appears. This blocks me from updating to the latest actions. which blocks all CI. So for now I suppress them: can create a ticket to work on them once CI is unblocked.
