This repository ships a base Docker image for configuration and extension by images shipping Fate and libraries derived from Fate.
This enables the Dockerfiles of Fate derivatives to configure – rather than re-implement – their basic installation and implement only the additional logic (e.g. installation of system libraries) they require.
For the most basic use in the Dockerfile of a library derived from Fate it’s as simple as specifying this base image and a default container command:
ARG APP_NAME=fate
ARG ORG_NAME=internet-equity
FROM ghcr.io/internet-equity/fate-builder
CMD ["fated", "--foreground"]
Of course, the above will install the Fate library into the image. An alternate library shipped in the same manner may be specified instead:
ARG APP_NAME=fate-custom
ARG ORG_NAME=another-name
FROM ghcr.io/internet-equity/fate-builder
CMD ["fated", "--foreground"]
Refer to the Fate Dockerfile for a more concrete example and to the Netrics Dockerfile for a more sophisticated extension of this base.
Note that this base image operates like a Docker image "template" – using the ONBUILD
instruction for much of its logic.
As such, the base image is itself little more than its own base (Debian by default).
Build arguments provided to the docker build
command – or within the library Dockerfile prior to the FROM
instruction – configure the on-build logic of the base image. This includes ensuring that the image operating system is up-to-date and that the Fate-like library is installed.
Any of the library’s additional requirements may be met by further instructions implemented in the library Dockerfile.
