The STEP Modules and Resources Library (SMRL) is a library of EXPRESS schemas that define common data structures and resources for use in STEP application protocols (APs) and other EXPRESS-based data models. The SMRL is maintained by ISO/TC 184/SC 4.
SMRL schemas provided by ISO are not accompanied by any documentation, making them difficult to understand and use. The official documentation is available for purchase from ISO as SMRL v11, which makes it hard for users to access.
For the benefit of the EXPRESS community, the EXPRESS Language Foundation (ELF) has annotated these raw schemas with comments and cross-references to make them easier to understand and use. ELF annotations are added using the Annotated EXPRESS mechanism in the EXPRESS files (defined by ELF), and are licensed under a permissive open source license.
ELF provides these annotated schemas on a "best effort" basis and makes no claim on their correctness or completeness. Some of the ELF annotations are generated using automated tools and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
Users should refer to the official ISO SMRL documentation for authoritative information.
