Connect Matomo as an analytics source alongside Google Analytics #286

Description

@CodeAndWeb

TL;DR

Sites that run Matomo instead of Google Analytics get no post-click data in OpenSEO. A project should be able to connect a Matomo site and see the same organic-traffic picture a GA4 property gives.

What is happening?

Analytics in OpenSEO is GA4 only. On a project whose site uses Matomo, the dashboard analytics card stays empty, the integrations page offers only Google Analytics, and every get_google_analytics_* tool plus get_search_opportunities returns ga4_not_connected. Search Console still shows clicks and impressions, but sessions, engagement, and conversions per landing page are unavailable, so questions like "which organic landing pages convert best" cannot be answered in chat.

We run Matomo for all our sites (codeandweb.com, 2stitch.com, ngx-translate.org). The data exists in Matomo; OpenSEO just cannot read it.

What should happen?

From project settings, connect a Matomo site by entering the Matomo URL, an API token, and choosing the site. Once connected:

  • The dashboard card shows organic sessions and trend from Matomo.
  • The organic overview, landing pages, page performance, traffic acquisition, goals, site search, and device/country reports work in chat and over MCP, read-only.
  • Search opportunities join Matomo landing pages with Search Console the way they do for GA4.

Reports that do not map cleanly can be left out: Matomo has no equivalent of GA4's measurement-health report, and ecommerce only applies when Matomo ecommerce tracking is on.
