Claude Code mods: hold the agent-process rules in the loop (.claude/mods) - #1585
Conversation
…he loop Seven function-hook plugins under .claude/mods/, published as a local marketplace (olo-mods), each answering a failure every check passed: - olo-output-truth: flags failed builds behind an exit-0 status, gtest filters that select nothing, runs that end inside a test, all-skipped runs and failing tests, including the log behind a background task's notice. - olo-command-guards: refuses bare pushes, chained --amend, piped Set-Content -NoNewline, CLAUDE.md's gated actions without the user's approval marker, and publishing while local checks run; flags timing runs on a busy GPU. - olo-read-gates: the shader, component and test guides before those edits; no edits to vendor, vcpkg or generated files; new test sources must be in CMakeLists.txt and classified. - olo-evidence: a per-branch ledger of builds, test runs and visual checks; /evidence shows it and gh pr create is refused when it does not back the PR. - olo-known-traps: attaches the recorded fix when a known trap's error text appears. - olo-context-saver: collapses ninja progress and passing gtest pairs in large logs before they are stored. - olo-fleet: /fleet shows worktrees, PR CI and review threads, and the build lock's holders and queue; notifies when a PR's CI settles. docs/agent-rules/claude-code-mods.md documents them, the markers, the install and what the VS Code extension does not draw. cleanup-worktree names the approval marker for issue closes. 📝 Walkthrough
Priority: ➖ Normal Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The new local Claude Code mods can misread some uncommon shell commands. As a result, a guarded command could skip its check, or a test run that never happened could be recorded as evidence. Engine code and users are unaffected. These are small parser fixes that should be made, but they do not block merging. Pre-merge checks |

comment portion of a statement produced by splitStatements, using commentStart’s
unquoted-comment rule; do not treat markers in quoted arguments or another
chained statement as approval.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-command-guards/tests/guards.test.ts:
- Around line 80-85: Add a case to the approval-marker test that places
OLO_USER_APPROVED inside a quoted argument and asserts the gated action still
produces a refusal; keep the existing unquoted-marker cases unchanged.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-evidence/hooks/ledger.ts:
- Around line 97-104: Update testOutcome to recognize ctest summary output
before falling back to unknown when no GTEST_HEADER is present, returning failed
or passed with the reported totals and failed test names as appropriate. Add a
testOutcome case in the ledger tests using a failing ctest summary.
- Around line 215-244: Update the no-runs check to count only runs with a known
outcome, and report each latest unknown outcome as unproven when codeChanged is
true, waivable with LEDGER_MARKER. In the run-processing loop, preserve the
existing running and failed checks; also tighten parseInvocations so it
recognizes OloEngine-Tests and ctest only in shell command position, not in
search or commit-message text.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-evidence/hooks/register.ts:
- Around line 155-171: Invalidate identityCache after a command capable of
changing HEAD so the next identity lookup resolves the current branch; update
the relevant command-handling flow and reuse the existing identity() cache
rather than changing its 60-second lifetime.
- Around line 76-90: Before the new command executes in the registration flow
that derives logPath with redirectTarget, freeze any earlier runs sharing that
path by recording each run’s current outcome in captured and clearing its
logPath; leave runs on other paths unchanged.
- Line 97: After `next(e)` succeeds, failures from `record` or evidence
post-processing must not reach the outer `.catch` and invoke `next(e)` a second
time. Wrap the post-processing in a local best-effort try/catch that swallows
those failures, then return the original `ran` result; preserve the existing
denied-result handling.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-fleet/hooks/register.tsx:
- Line 143: Wrap the parsePrs call in refresh with a try/catch so invalid
GraphQL output does not abort the refresh; on failure, add an appropriate
message to errors and allow the remaining refresh updates to continue.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-known-traps/hooks/traps.ts:
- Around line 76-79: Update the `advice` for the `matches` rule so a `UU` status
does not assume a merge or recommend restoring `MERGE_HEAD` from
`origin/master`; only describe marker restoration after the Git operation and
its original target have been verified.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-output-truth/hooks/analyze.ts:
- Around line 25-28: Update normalize to strip ANSI color escape sequences from
the text before GoogleTest output matching, while preserving its existing
null-byte, newline, and numbered-list normalization. Add test coverage verifying
that colored GoogleTest failure output is still detected by analyzeTests.
- Around line 172-178: Update the GTEST_DONE handling in the test-segment
analysis so a missing final summary marks the segment incomplete even when its
last observed test is settled. Compare the declared test count with observed
tests, and do not treat the segment as complete unless the final summary is
present.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-output-truth/hooks/register.ts:
- Around line 82-88: Update readTail so large-log reads work when the host lacks
a `tail` executable, using a portable file-tail implementation or a supported
PowerShell approach. Preserve the existing behavior of returning the final
TAIL_BYTES and passing read failures through as undefined.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-read-gates/hooks/gates.ts:
- Around line 19-20: Update normPath so it resolves path segments such as `.`
and `..` before gateFor applies deny and guide rules, ensuring rules match the
resolved target path while the original tool call remains unchanged.
- Line 115: Update the CMake catalogue checks around `cmakeLists` to match
complete source entries rather than filename substrings, and validate the test
against a parsed `file_layer_map` key. Ensure a test that is unbuilt or absent
from the classification map still receives a note.
- Around line 27-29: Update repoRoot so it resolves the target checkout root
rather than stopping at the first familiar directory segment, including for
paths under .claude/worktrees; preserve gateFor’s ability to deny vendor edits
and apply test guide gates using paths relative to that checkout.
Review comments at @.claude/mods/olo-read-gates/hooks/register.ts:
- Around line 16-17: Update hasRead to compare recorded Read paths against the
guide path resolved for the target checkout, rather than accepting any path that
ends with the guide name; keep reads from another worktree from satisfying the
gate.
Review comments at @docs/agent-rules/claude-code-mods.md:

instructions to use a checkout-relative path, so it works from any checkout
location; retain the documented expectation that users run it from the base
checkout.

- olo-command-guards: the approval marker counts only in the trailing comment of the statement it approves; a quoted marker, or one on another statement of a chain, approves nothing. - olo-evidence: a statement must run the build or test to count; ctest's own summary is read; runs with no known outcome are not evidence; an earlier run keeps the outcome its log held before a later run overwrote it; recording after the tool ran is best effort; the branch identity is dropped after a command that can move HEAD; PR markers are statement-scoped like the guard's; large logs are tailed through pwsh, with tail as the fallback. - olo-output-truth: ANSI colour is stripped before matching; a run with no final summary is reported as not passed; ctest failures are reported; the same portable tail. - olo-read-gates: paths resolve their .. segments; the checkout root is the nearest .git, so a nested worktree is its own checkout; a guide counts only when read from the edited checkout; CMake and catalogue entries are matched whole, not as substrings. - olo-fleet: a garbled GitHub reply keeps the last known PR states and the rest of the refresh; a refresh can no longer reject unhandled. - olo-known-traps: the UU advice identifies the operation first and restores a merge marker only for a merge, to its own target. - olo-context-saver: ANSI colour does not stop a passing test collapsing. - docs: marker scoping, and a checkout-relative marketplace path. …GE_HEAD only - olo-command-guards and olo-evidence: a command behind `VAR=x`, `env`, `timeout N`, `call`, or inside `pwsh -Command`, `bash -c`, `sh -c`, `cmd /c` is checked as the command it runs. `GH_TOKEN=x gh pr merge`, `pwsh -Command "git push origin master"` and a wrapped `gh pr create` no longer slip past the guards or the evidence gate. A wrapper's own trailing comment approves what it runs; a quoted marker still approves nothing. The normalisers are one copy kept identical in both mods. - olo-known-traps: the UU advice restores MERGE_HEAD only with the exact commit the merge named; a stage-3 blob is a consistency check, not proof, and without the exact commit it says to abort and redo the merge. `env -i gh pr merge 1` and `bash -ec 'git reset --hard'` slipped past the guards and the evidence gate: commandWords dropped `env` but not its options, and innerCommand matched only an exact `-c`/`-lc`. Launchers now drop their own options (`env -i -u X`, `env -S '<cmd>'` split into the command, `timeout -s KILL 60`, `nice -n 5`, `time`, `exec`), and a bash/sh/zsh/dash wrapper is any single-dash flag group containing `c`. The block stays one copy, identical in olo-command-guards and olo-evidence. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…rmaliser - `env -S '<string>'` (and `--split-string=`, `-S<string>`): the split words go back through env's own option handling, so `env -S '-i gh pr merge 1'` is `gh pr merge 1`, not `-i`. - Shell wrappers read only their own options: words after a script operand are the script's arguments, so `bash script.sh -c '...'` and `pwsh -File x.ps1 -Command '...'` run no inline command. Option values (`-o pipefail`, `-ExecutionPolicy Bypass`) are skipped correctly. The one script whose -Command runs is build-lock.ps1. Windows PowerShell runs a bare operand as a command; pwsh runs it as a script file. Both copies (olo-command-guards, olo-evidence) stay identical.
