Simplify some of the statistical methods that are needed for some future releases.
These tools are not currently exposed in the python interface, and are only available in the rust backent.
I am working toward the release of a new package, and these statistical tools are more useful in kete for now. These changes may not make it into a formal release, and are currently here primarily for testing.
