The copy-check graded PaddleOCR *printed-text* OCR of *handwritten* copies and never showed the model the page — capping accuracy at OCR quality. Now rasterize each answer-sheet page and send the image(s) to a vision model (Gemini 2.5 Flash, escalate to 2.5 Pro), with OCR demoted to an assistive hint + annotation anchor. Gated by COPY_CHECK_VISION_GRADING (default on); off = legacy text-only path unchanged. Unrenderable pages route to manual review instead of releasing silent zeros.
