Option: Blocking Mode

Mark Jaroski edited this page Mar 22, 2015 · 2 revisions

By default Duo Break Time allows access to everything on the Internet, and only regulates a few selected sites, requiring the user to pay a lingot for their use.

This setting changes that. If you select whitelist mode the extension will allow access only to selected sites, a list of which is controllable by a new option: The Whitelist.

Note: This feature may be temporary. Duo Break Time was originally conceived as an extension for chrome supervised users, however as of this writing it isn't possible to deploy an extension to a supervised user. If Google change this behaviour it will again make more sense to use the supervised user functionality.

Other parental control extensions

It may make more sense for an individual parent or teacher to use one of the several existing parental control extensions, since they offer more functionality than the white list here. They should work fine with Duo Break Time, provided that you allow Duolingo, Github and your target break time sites. This is key: if you use another parental control extension you must allow your selected break time sites there, as well as Duo of course, and Github (this site) for the documentation.
