Coming Soon!
This is my first project in Java. It is made to be similar to leaguesecretary.com, where you can add bowlers' stats every week and then it lists things like team standings, top averages, etc.
This program can be run by using IntelliJ Idea or running in terminal. Example in Ubuntu Linux (assuming src folder is in Downloads):
cd Downloads/src
javac Main.java
java Main
This project's general structure is almost complete. I just need to fix a bug with handicaps. Adding save data will be the next task.
Now:
- Calculate average from pinfall total and game count
- Sort bowlers by multiple stats
- Filter by gender
- Add your own bowlers
- Generate standings sheets
When finished:
- Undo previous actions
- Calculate team standings
- Generate lane assignments every week
- Save data
Before starting this project, I was trying to find a website to learn Java but none of them really worked out well, so I decided to start a project instead and learn as I go. From a few lessons among multiple websites, I learned some basic syntax to start out. So far, this project has shown me that programming languages can be very similar to one another, so skills can carry over between languages, but learning new languages is still a challenge. For example, in JS, I was comfortable with arrays because it was easy to just use .push() and .splice(), but in Java I had to learn array lists. However, loops are a very similar syntax, I just had to change let to int in the for loops.
I made this project with the end goal of learning some Java so I could get some experience for my cybersecurity/backend web dev career.
