These skills teach an AI assistant to read a medical-device tender or product datasheet that you attach. They quote the file. If CE is not written, they must say NOT SPECIFIED — they must not invent a certificate.
The three read skills are free (MIT). You do not need an Orbid account for those.
This GitHub page is not the app. You install the skills into Claude Code, Cursor, Grok, or Codex on your computer, then you chat there.
| Need | Notes |
|---|---|
| A computer (Mac or Windows) | Phone-only will not work. |
| Internet | First install downloads files. |
| One AI app that can load skills | See Which app should I use?. |
| A PDF (or Word / Excel) of the tender or datasheet | You will attach it in the chat. |
You do not need: an Orbid login, a credit card, or to “sign in to this repo.”
Will not work by itself: ChatGPT in a web browser, WeChat, emailing the PDF to someone. Those apps do not load GitHub skills.
If you do not already have a favorite, install Claude Code and follow Path A. You type two lines in the chat. You do not need to know what a terminal is.
| If you already use… | Follow |
|---|---|
| Nothing yet | Path A — Claude Code |
| Claude Code | Path A |
| Cursor | Path B |
Grok desktop or grok in a terminal |
Path C |
| Codex CLI | Path B (same npx command) |
| Only ChatGPT.com | Install Claude Code or Cursor first. Then Path A or B. |
Easiest if you are stuck: skip the commands. Open Claude Code and paste the installer message.
You will type in the Claude Code chat box, not in macOS Terminal or Windows CMD.
- Open Claude Code’s overview and install the app for your computer.
- Sign in with your Anthropic / Claude account when it asks.
- You should see a chat box where you can type.
Click the chat box. Type this exactly, including the / at the start, then press Enter:
/plugin marketplace add Leon-SG/orbid-skills
Wait until it finishes. If it asks you to trust or allow Leon-SG/orbid-skills, choose yes.
If nothing happens, you typed it in the wrong place (a system Terminal). It must go in Claude Code.
In the same chat, type:
/plugin install orbid-read@orbid-skills
If you see a list:
- Choose Install now (or similar).
- If it asks for scope, choose User (every project on this computer) unless you only want it in one folder.
Type:
/plugin
Open the Installed tab. You should see orbid-read.
If you only see the marketplace and no plugin, repeat A3.
Skills often load when a new session starts.
- Start a new conversation (New chat). Do not keep typing in the install thread.
- If the skill still does not fire later, quit Claude Code completely and open it again.
Do one of these:
- Drag the PDF onto the chat, or
- Click + / paperclip / attach → choose the file from disk.
You should see a file chip or preview of the PDF. Typing C:\Users\me\tender.pdf as text is not attaching.
You can attach two files (tender + datasheet) for a comparison.
Copy one row. Send it as the message (with the file already attached):
| You attached | Send this |
|---|---|
| A tender / RFP / bid | Read this tender. If something is not written, say NOT SPECIFIED. Do not invent certificate numbers. |
| A datasheet / IFU / brochure | Read this datasheet. Split different models. If digits are unreadable, say UNABLE TO READ. |
| Both | Overlay this tender and this datasheet. No win score. not evaluated is not the same as meets. |
If it ignores the file, say: Use orbid-read-tender on the attached PDF.
- Buyer, lots, deadline, warranty as written, with a page or sheet.
- A missing CE/ISO line:
NOT SPECIFIED, not “probably CE marked.” - A smeared scan:
UNABLE TO READ, not guessed digits. - It does not fill an Excel template for you.
If it invents a certificate number, the skill is not being followed. Start a new chat, attach again, and name the skill.
Download Cursor. Open it.
Menu Terminal → New Terminal. A panel opens at the bottom. That is where you paste the command — not in the AI chat.
You need Node.js LTS (the default installer is enough).
- Install Node.js.
- Quit Cursor fully and open it again.
- Open a new terminal. Type
npx --versionand press Enter. You should see a number. If not, Node is not on your PATH; reinstall Node and reboot.
Paste the whole block, then Enter:
npx skills add Leon-SG/orbid-skills --skill orbid-read-tender --skill orbid-read-datasheet --skill orbid-read-compare -g -yWhat the flags mean: -g = for your user (all projects); -y = do not ask extra questions.
The first run can take a minute (it downloads the installer). Leave the window open. If macOS asks to allow network or a developer tool, allow it.
When it finishes, it should list the three skill names.
- Open a new Agent / Chat in Cursor (not the terminal panel).
- Attach the PDF with + or drag-and-drop.
- Send the same sentence as A7.
If Cursor was already running, reload the window (Command Palette → “Reload”) after install.
- Use Grok desktop or the
grokCLI, not only the grok.com website (the website may not load these files). - Open Grok’s terminal (or a system terminal where
grokworks). - Run the same command as B4.
- Start a new Grok conversation.
- Attach the PDF and send the sentence from A7.
If commands make you nervous, open Claude Code, start a chat, and paste this entire block:
Install the Orbid read skills from GitHub repo Leon-SG/orbid-skills.
I want orbid-read-tender, orbid-read-datasheet, and orbid-read-compare.
Use: /plugin marketplace add Leon-SG/orbid-skills
then: /plugin install orbid-read@orbid-skills
Tell me when they are installed. Then I will attach a PDF. Do not invent CE/ISO numbers.
When it says it is done, still start a new chat, attach the PDF, and send the sentence from A7.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
Nothing happens after /plugin … |
You are not in Claude Code. Path A is the Claude Code chat, not macOS Terminal / Windows CMD. |
npx: command not found |
Install Node.js LTS, restart the app, retry B4. |
| Marketplace / repo not found | Check the name: Leon-SG/orbid-skills (letters, hyphen, no extra spaces). |
| Plugin installed but answers are generic | New chat after install; quit and reopen the app; attach a real file; say Use orbid-read-tender. |
| It makes up a CE number | New chat. Send: Use orbid-read-tender. If CE is not in the file, write NOT SPECIFIED. |
| Garbled scan / black boxes for numbers | UNABLE TO READ is correct. Do not ask it to guess. |
| It offers to fill Excel | Refuse. These read skills must not fill forms. |
401 / Unauthorized / missing tools |
You asked for your company’s catalog. That needs Connect. See below. The three read skills must not need this. |
| Skills work in one folder but not another | You installed without -g (project only). Run B4 again with -g, or install from Path A with User scope. |
Still stuck: open an issue and say which app, which path (A/B/C/D), and the exact error text.
The read skills only see this chat’s files. They cannot list your bids or match your catalog.
That is a separate product step:
- Website: orbid.dev. Sign in at app.orbid.dev.
- Connect the MCP server: app.orbid.dev/mcp. Per-app clicks: CONNECT.md.
- Then install the connected plugin (Claude Code):
/plugin install orbid-connected@orbid-skills
Or with npx:
npx skills add Leon-SG/orbid-skills --skill orbid-bid-brief --skill orbid-match --skill orbid-gaps --skill orbid-certs -g -yIf tools are missing or the app says 401, stop. Do not invent session names. Match uses credits and does not fill Excel.
| Skill | Orbid account? | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| orbid-read-tender | No | This tender / RFP |
| orbid-read-datasheet | No | This datasheet / IFU / brochure |
| orbid-read-compare | No | Both files; overlay, no score |
| orbid-bid-brief | Yes | Our sessions |
| orbid-match | Yes | Our catalog vs a session |
| orbid-gaps | Yes | Our gaps |
| orbid-certs | Yes | Specs and certs in our catalog |
Not included: the MCP server itself, Excel fill, a public demo company, or a password.
This is not a bid decision and not a CE/FDA certificate.
