Note

This is a continuation of the work I proposed in PR #543

Although Omakub has been declared “complete,” I believe there’s still room for a continuation that keeps the spirit alive while making it easier to maintain and extend. Omakube takes inspiration from Omarchy’s structure, menus, and theming model, while staying true to Ubuntu and the original purpose of Omakub: a one-liner that delivers a fully working developer environment.

The main improvements include:

  • Unified Menu: a more polished control center based on wofi, replacing both gum prompts and ULauncher.
  • Themes: a new theming model with additional defaults (Osaka Jade, Catppuccin Latte) and support for extra community themes without separate install scripts.
  • Login and Boot Screens: updated visuals, following Omarchy’s approach while keeping GDM3 for consistency.
  • Default Apps: preconfigured defaults (Chromium, LibreOffice, Xournalpp) following the Omakase Doctrine, with easier options to remove or replace later.

In short, Omakube aims to provide a ready-to-use, opinionated system out of the box, while still leaving room for customization and contributions.
