appveyor seems to be failing because it's installing node on an outdated windows image, however, there doesn't seem to be a way to change this in appveyor.yml. Perhaps someone needs to update it in the appveyor ui, otherwise it can just be removed completely and we can migrate to github actions.

Node.js is only supported on Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, or higher.
Setting the NODE_SKIP_PLATFORM_CHECK environment variable to 1 skips this
check, but Node.js might not execute correctly. Any issues encountered on
unsupported platforms will not be fixed.Command exited with code 216
