charcoal

charcoal is a fast and efficient note-taking app. It uses markdown file formatting; a welcome guide is pre-installed for those unfamiliar. Built using tauri and react, it supports latex via KateX, pasted images, enhanced multitasking, exporting notes to .PDF, and custom themes, all while consuming less resources than your favorite Electron applications.

INSTALLATION

Linux

Download the '.AppImage' or '.deb' from the latest release and run it.

MacOS

Download the '.dmg' from the latest release, open it, and drag charcoal to your applications folder

Note: Since charcoal isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate, macOS will block it on first launch. To get around this, right-click the app and select Open instead of double-clicking it, then click Open in the dialog. Alternatively, you may use the terminal application to manually remove the quarantine attribute. You should only need to do this once.
