Fire Events Data Suite (FEDS)

pytest Binder

Overview

The Fire Events Data Suite (FEDS) algorithm processes satellite active fire detections to track the spread and intensity of individual wildland fires.

Our group generates FEDS estimated fire perimeters over the continental United States every 12 hours, using data from the VIIRS sensors on the Suomi-NPP, NOAA-20, and NOAA-21 satellites.

Repository Organization

  • fireatlas module: Implements core FEDS algorithm as described in Chen et al., 2022
  • maap_runtime and GitHub Actions: Infrastructure for our NRT data processing pipeline using the NASA-ESA MAAP DPS
  • tests: automated unit and integration tests using pytest
  • docs: Documentation, including source files for our Quarto-based static site
