40/20/6for gradient cleanup while preserving fine art textures. Low-End and 8K profiles explicitly keep debanding disabled for performance. -
π External Player, IPC & SVP Coexistence (v5.3): MediaFlick and other controllers retain ownership of their IPC endpoint while Unix systems expose a discoverable per-process alias for SVP and related integrations. Standalone Windows and Linux MPV sessions retain their normal named-pipe/socket behavior.
-
βοΈ Update-Safe Personal MPV Config (v5.3): One
mpv-<custom-name>.conffile can override normal options after the shippedmpv.conf, keeping personal choices separate from build updates while safely rejecting ambiguous multiple override files. -
π¬ Commentary-Safe Subtitle Fallbacks (v5.3): Automatic selection completely skips commentary subtitles, preserves clean-track priority, and falls back to a complete SDH or hearing-impaired track when no usable clean subtitle existsβeven without preferred-language metadata.
-
π¨ Contrast-Separated Smart Skip Colors (v5.3): Intro and PV colors are swapped across Skip Intro and the UOSC timeline so adjacent chapters remain distinct: OP green, ED blue, PV orange, and Intro magenta.
-
π‘οΈ Protected Customized UOSC (v5.3): Removed UOSC's upstream self-updater so it cannot overwrite the Anime Build's customized
main.lua. A manual System β Check for Updates opens the exact latest Anime Build release, while automatic checks never launch a browser. -
π Automated VirusTotal Reports (v5.3): Published ZIP assets receive SHA-256-specific VirusTotal results in their release descriptions, with support for large archives and historical release backfills.
-
π¬ Restored Live-Action Path Override (v5.2): Explicit
Live Action,Live-Action,liveaction,drama, andreal personpath/title signals once again take priority over Anime folder and Japanese-audio signals while Anime Mode is set to Auto. -

- Safety & Bit-Depth: Automatically selects
p010(10-bit) for HDR/Anime to prevent banding.
You have two distinct engines for watching Anime.
| Mode | Engine | Best For | Philosophy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance (Default) | Anime4K | 720p / Old Anime | "Make it look like 4K." Aggressive upscaling, artifact removal, and "painting" effect. Razor-sharp. |
| Fidelity (Purist) | FSRCNNX | 1080p / Modern Anime | "Show exactly what the artist drew." Preserves original texture, line art, and film grain. |
- SD Content: Applies
FSRCNNX-16 (Anime Enhance)for deep reconstruction. - HD/FHD Content: Applies
FSRCNNX-8 (Line Art)for subtle edge refinement.
Non-anime content uses a completely separate "Modern TV" adaptive processing path.
- SD (< 576p): Choose between NNEDI3 (Clean/Texture) or FSRCNNX (Sharp Mode).
- HD (720p-1080p): Choose between NNEDI3 (Geometry) or FSRCNNX (Detail/Sharp).
- 4K (2160p): Native 1:1 Pixel Mapping with subtle Adaptive Sharpening + Glaze. Bypasses all heavy upscalers.
- 8K (4320p) [v3.0]: Engages Hardware-Decoded optimized mode. Bypasses all post-processing.
If you disable shaders (CTRL+g), MPV falls back to its high-quality native scaling configuration:
spline64: The v4.9 default for Anime and native FHD processing. Produces smooth, stable edges with less aggressive ringing.ewa_lanczossharp: A sharper manual alternative when stronger edge definition is preferred.mitchell: A softer option that can help conceal compression artifacts and low-quality source detail.
- Audio-Only Mode [v3.0]: Instantly drops GPU load to 0% for music playback, showing embedded album art and dynamic visualizers.
- Spatial Audio: Uses HRTF-based virtual surround to simulate a 7.1 cinema experience on standard stereo headphones.
- Display-Aware Audio Devices: Configure Linux, Windows, or macOS display-to-device mappings in
script-opts/auto_audio_device.conf. Linux and Windows console output includes the monitor product name alongside its connector/GDI identifier, unmapped displays preserve the current device by default, andCTRL+atoggles automatic switching. - Night Mode: Applies Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) to lower explosions and boost whispers for late-night viewing.
- Passthrough/Bitstream: Send raw TrueHD/DTS-X to your AVR with a single click (
A).
Automatically detects your monitor's capabilities via Windows.
- Windows HDR ON: Activates the HDR Display output path. The selected metadata-aware tone-mapping curve remains active for HDR10+/Dolby Vision highlight handling.
- Windows HDR OFF: Switches to High-Quality Tone Mapping (Spline/BT.2390) for SDR monitors.
- Dolby Vision: Plays correctly on all devices, automatically falling back to the HDR10 Base Layer if your display lacks DV support (fixes purple/green screen errors).
- Calibration: Manually set Target Peak Brightness (e.g., 400 nits, 1000 nits) and Tone-Mapping algorithms via the menu.
- Glass UI (UOSC): A modern, transparent "Smoked Glass" interface that doesn't block the video.
- Smart Skip Intro / Up Next: Interactive, context-aware cards.
- π’ Green: Skip OP | π΅ Blue: Skip ED | π£ Magenta: Skip Preview
- Click to skip instantly. Pauses the timer if you pause the video.
- Neon Glass Stats Overlay (

- Copy Files: Extract the contents of this build into your
%APPDATA%/mpv/folder (Windows) or~/.config/mpv(Linux). - Fonts: Install
Source Sans Pro(included) to ensure the Stats overlay renders correctly.
Settings changed in UOSC β Controls are saved outside the tracked defaults, so updating the build does not reset them. The HDR display mode, target peak, and tone-mapping choice use the same override layer.
- User files must be named
user-<custom-name>.conf;<custom-name>can be any non-empty name. - If no user file exists, the first remembered change creates
user-settings.conf. - Multiple user files are loaded alphabetically. Later files override earlier files, and the last file is updated when a menu choice is saved.
- Built-in script defaults and
mpv.confremain the fallback when a setting has no user override.
To override any normal MPV option without editing the build's tracked mpv.conf, create exactly one file named mpv-<custom-name>.conf beside mpv.conf. For example, mpv-personal.conf containing fullscreen=no overrides the build's fullscreen=yes default.
- The custom file is loaded after the shipped
mpv.conf, so duplicate options in it take precedence. - Only the settings you want to change need to be added; do not copy the complete shipped configuration.
- The filename works the same on Windows and Linux, and the file remains separate during build updates.
- If multiple
mpv-*.conffiles are present, none are loaded and MPV displays a warning. Keep exactly one active custom file. mpv-*.confcontrols normal MPV options. The separateuser-*.conffiles above store remembered Anime Build menu settings.
