Over 70 million gig workers across Africa are paid through legacy wire transfers and mobile money corridors that charge 5–15% fees and take 1–5 business days to settle. For a freelancer in Lagos waiting on a $200 invoice, that's a $30 loss and a week of waiting. This is broken.
AfriWage fixes it. Employers send USDC via Stellar. It settles in 5 seconds. Workers can off-ramp to NGN or GHS through integrated Stellar anchors. The entire flow is transparent, on-chain, and costs fractions of a cent.

cd AfriWage
pnpm installcp .env.example apps/web/.env.local.env.local is gitignored, so the credentials you paste there are never committed. It holds
two kinds of values:
- Public client config (
NEXT_PUBLIC_*) — safe to expose in the browser bundle. - Server-only secrets (
POSTGRES_URL,YELLOWCARD_API_KEY) — read only on the server.
The server validates the required secrets at startup and refuses to boot if they are missing
or malformed (see apps/web/src/lib/env.ts). See the architecture docs
for the Database and Yellow Card off-ramp sections.

These are inlined into the browser bundle at build time and are safe to expose. Never put
private keys or API secrets in a NEXT_PUBLIC_* variable.

These are read only on the server and must never be committed or exposed to the client. The
app validates them at startup (apps/web/src/lib/env.ts) and refuses to boot with a clear
error naming any missing or invalid value.
