The changes have been merged into preview. Blog post here, release here. Just to mention it, the newer themes show above in the screenshots were removed, to reduce how much we'd need to fix/maintain in order to bring this version of Zed up to speed with old Zed.

We have a lot left to do in order to go open source, but this was definitely, by far, our largest hurdle on the list. Super excited to open up the codebase to our users - can't wait to see what you all might add to Zed.

Looking at the checklist I don't see an open source OS support there. I wonder if that could be prioritized, so open source OS users could enjoy open source zed, rather than letting only closed source OS users enjoy open source zed.

@jangorecki that seems to be tracked separately in issue #5391

@jakobkg yes, I am aware of that issue. What I meant is that a part of the issue you linked, related to an open source OS, seems to fit to this issue as well. Although not truly a dependency for this issue but something that could be prioritized a bit.

Very excited about this. To clarify, is the plan to go open source shortly after preview is promoted to stable, or are the rest of the items on the checklist expected to take a significant amount of time?

The plan is to finish off the checklist - that being said, this list is a little misleading, as a few of the unchecked items are being worked on at the same time and are almost done, so progress is going to jump really soon!

Congratulations on the open source launch. A piece of feedback: GPL is a rough license, and a CLA is a no-go. I won't be able to even investigate the feasibility of building on top of Zed.
