I tried grind(a < b); and it displays a < b$ as expected, with a space on either side of the less than sign. I don't see any error there; Gunter, can you give an example?

I am working on Ubuntu 16.04. build_info() reports: build_info(version="5.47.0",timestamp="2024-08-18 17:09:33",host="x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu",lisp_name="SBCL",lisp_version="2.4.7",maxima_userdir="/home/dodier/.maxima",maxima_tempdir="/tmp",maxima_objdir="/home/dodier/.maxima/binary/5_47_0/sbcl/2_4_7",maxima_frontend="wxMaxima",maxima_frontend_version="24.08.0_DevelopmentSnapshot_GTK3")
