@robinmetral minor changes to the CMS in your local instance are required:

In the sidebar, head to custom fields
Select the field group project information
Update the location rules to display posts on Project post types
Back in the custom fields dashboard, select the field group Featured Projects
Expand the only custom field in that group. Change the *filter by post type setting to filter by project post types.
Go to settings > permalinks and click save. That will update the database.
