Modal above another Modal does not grey out the underlying modal

I have a situation where I display a modal for some input, this greys out the underlying page - as required.

Now if the user performs an action within this modal form that pops up another modal, the underlying modal is not dimmed, but the surrounding area of the underlying modal is dimmed even further.

any way to fix this??
