Their size is hardcoded to 44px, probably referring to 44px being minimum size touch target for a 1 px/pt screen.

Their size should be proportionally derived from the base font size which changes with the resolution.

Or derived via CSS variable from a global.css stylesheet so that it can be overridden using proper media queries.
