We should merge these removals the week before release. From @castrojo:
IMO the play is to do it the week before release, after the last weekly for that version, then we merge, then we get on the daily builds and shake the tyres.

Yeah at this point, we should do the replacements on the F42 milestone, so as jorge suggested, once the "last" f41 stable (weekly) is done, we can start merging these.
Another package/group, we should consider is qemu/virt-manager. It now has a flatpak so we could remove the layered packages from dx, it would also make the size little bit smaller.
I haven't (yet) tested the flatpak but what I have seen and heard it should be pretty much complete solution. There were atleast at some point some shortcomings (maybe passthrough or something) but I guess those are kind of niche stuff anyway on Aurora atleast.
This issue is to track tasks related to the Aurora 42 milestone.
Package removals
Some packages are now available as Flatpaks and we can remove them from the base image.
