Adding on to this, what would be the best way to install AWCC on a Fedora atomic distro? With Alienware/G being geared toward gaming Bazzite paired with AWCC may help people move from Windows. Will AWCC need to be layered into rpm-ostree in order to communicate properly with the bios or could it be installed with Flatpak, Homebrew, Quadlet, Distrobox, AppImage, or something else? I know layering is a last resort with some major caveats. Will AWCC and any dependencies update automatically on an atomic distro?

I have an Aurora R12 dual booted with Bazzite that I could help test on as time permits.

Also I have verified that alienware-wmi is installed however it isn't working on my system. Looking through the code I didn't see my system listed. From my research it seems all Aurora desktops use AMW1 ACPI code so if AWCC works on my system it should work on all Aurora desktops. Maybe @kuu-rt can add it to the kernel driver.

Currently It does that only one arch linux (as its the distro i use and had most understanding of it so made a package)
But in near future I would make a deb and rpm package

Or even better i would make a appimage which could be installed over all distro and could be updated automatically

As far as i know he pushed the changes all devices should have it loaded if not u can just force load it using sudo rmmod alienware_wmi && sudo modprobe alienware_wmi force_platform_profile=1 force_hwmon=1 force_gmode=1

Tho if it dosent work i would make a wrapper script to install and load the kernel module

Tho theoretically this project supports all devices as im finished with new SDK here i still have to rewrite to use new SDK

I meant testing is the fan profiles, temperature and other stuff is actually working. Cuz I have a problem with monitor brightness and so far I got zero physical response from the monitor.

There is no testing now as such because now we have enough data regarding these device we can be 99% sure it would work but before I had to give user some script to run and then decode output and acpidump

For monitor u can either use brightnessctl or ddcutil one of them should work for ur monito

In theory it should already work, but I never remember why I haven't added it to the allow list... Maybe I just forgot?

The top fan and front fan report random numbers between 0 and 2500. The min and max match what I discovered in bios diagnostics post here: #99 (comment).

The issue I'm having is I don't get any fan boost as temps rise. CPU can be at 80+ C and the fans are idling/barely moving. The only way I have been able to get them to speed up is to boot Windows, adjust with Dell AWCC, and reboot into Fedora or Bazzite. They still will not boost but whatever speed they were running in Windows will persist after reboot. If I shutdown I have to do the process over again. I also discovered while playing with the power profiles that putting it in power saver kills the fans to idling/barely moving and putting it back in balanced or performance does not bring the fans back. Can alienware_wmi set boost modes such as Dell AWCC balanced, performance, etc? Can custom curves/tables be fed into it?

Edit: Sorry @tr1xem. I feel like I hijacked this thread and your project for @kuu-rt's and that wasn't my intention. At the end of the day if these two projects can help others who would like to use Linux then it is a win for the community.

You can set fan boost with the alienware-wmi driver. Check kuu-rt/awcc-ctl for a quick example of how to do it.

The kernel driver has no way of storing the fan boost after reboot, it has to be done in user-space. Also, the firmware resets the boost value after switching profiles, user-space would have to restore them manually too.

If it is working then I need to figure out why it would not boost off idle at 80+ C. Are the boost profiles baked into the bios or is that part of alienware_wmi? Front fan is the front case fan and top is the AIO fan. I just noticed that after a reboot alienware_wmi is not running but dell_smm is running. Dell_smm calls them video and motherboard fans respectively.

The Info Center updates every 1 second. It seems strange that it would report 2151 to 358 then back to 2151 or go to 0 which I know it is not doing. The fan is absolutely not ramping up and down that fast in 1 second. Is alienware_wmi reporting the actual speed or the signal being sent to the controller? If it is reporting the signal then there should be some hysteresis/smoothing added so the fans are not constantly "seeking" a new speed.

Fan speed is ultimately controlled by the firmware, the user can suggest to the firmware more speed (fan boost) but alienware-wmi only reports and exposes those interfaces, it does not apply any kind of curve.

I will whitelist your model but in the meantime you would have to apply force_platform_profile=1 force_hwmon=1 force_gmode=1 module parameters persistently for it to auto load.

Hmm that does seem like a firmware bug. Can you email me the output of acpidump so I can take a look? There's probably not much alienware_wmi can do though, as I said, it only reports values given by the firmware.

It depends on what the firmware is programmed to do. Beware that power-profiles-daemon does change it to balanced at boot.

This kuu-rt/awcc-ctl works perfectly in manual mode. At 100 boost the fans roar like a jet engine all the way to 4000 rpm or I can set them anywhere in between.

The profiles it gave me are: balanced, balanced-performance, performance, and custom. My desktop was set to custom. I assumed it was custom because I use my own custom curve in Dell AWCC in Windows and that was still set when I rebooted into Bazzite. I later confirmed this by setting Dell AWCC in Windows to performance then rebooted into Bazzite and awcc-ctl showed the current profile as balanced-performance. I can change the profile in awcc-ctl to balanced, balanced-performance, or custom. However if I try to change the profile to performance it shows that it changed but if I list current profile it is still the previous profile. Regardless none of these profiles will auto-boost as temperatures rise. While on the balanced-performance profile awcc-ctl shows my current boost at 43 which is wrong because the fans are idling and when I manually set the boost to 43 they speed up.

Are the profiles listed in awcc-ctl pulled from the bios, alienware_wmi, awcc-ctl, or somewhere else? Can any of these profiles be altered? It lists custom as a profile but how do you edit the custom profile?

They are pulled form device acpi directly (which happens same in windows)

While on the balanced-performance profile awcc-ctl shows my current boost at 43 which is wrong because the fans are idling and when I manually set the boost to 43 they speed up.

my fans are at 2000rpm at 0 boost so its not the way they calculate it
