I want to suggest some general feature

How about both show_commands to print the commands being run and show_output to show output. Then we wouldn't need a "damp" run type, as it would be the same as show_commands = true (though I admit I just dislike the word "damp").
imo both should be enabled by default, I think most users would find it useful to know what commands are being run even during a non-dry run. In a dry run, show_commands would be ignored (it would effectively always be on).
