Thanks for the post, really insightful. I'm interested in what your Vim config looks like. Do you change the vim keymaps to be the same positions as they would be on a qwerty, or simply keep them as is with the new layout change?

You can find my Vim configuration on GitHub but I don't remap anything differently from QWERTY because (1) Enthium already preserves the Engram layout's affinity for Vim while inheriting the Hands Down Promethium layout's intuitive HJKL cluster and stellar performance in layout analyzers; and because (2) Vim's key bindings are largely mnemonic and can thus potentially work with any keyboard layout.

Notably, Vim's keybindings essentially form a Domain Specific Language for text editing, complete with operators (change, delete, etc.) that combine with text objects (words, lines, sentences, paragraphs, blocks, etc.), motions (going upto/onto X number of text objects before/after the cursor), locations (marks, jump history, navigation history even across different files), and macros to automate everything thereof. This is the killer feature of the Vi family of text editors, in my mind. All plugins and niceties thereafter are simply built on this powerful foundation --- as such, they're often replicated in other text editors.

You mentioned that you switched to Enthium and trained on keybr. Is there a way to set a custom keeyboard layout like engrammer or enthium on keybr?

I don't think KeyBr supports that currently, but what I did was to simply hide the on-screen keyboard display by clicking the "expand" icon (located beside the "settings" icon) and overlay the image of my target keyboard layout (in another window) on the same screen as a visual reference & learning aid while training.

A 'lite' version of this layout config (including symbol and numbers), without the extra layers for other layouts and emojis, would be a great addition. Thanks for the research.

Great layout, excited to have found out about it and try it. How would you recommend modifying it to account for the lack of an outer 6th column on boards like Atreus (I am definitely wanting to get a 6 column board soon)? Would the only modification be putting W and F on the bottom row, or do you have an opinion on the best layout for boards like the Atreus without a 6th/outer column.

Suggestions:

Swap dash - for underscore _; identifiers and file names use underscore instead of spaces, so underscore should take precedence. For non-coders, this advice can be ignored.

On non-glove keyboards, even though qwerty.Capslock is in the homerow, I find it harder to reach than qwerty.Q. What d'you think of placing W on qwerty.Q and Z on qwerty.Capslock? Admittedly, I have shortish fingers. In other words, I would modify the "weakened by convention" argument such that pinky homerow reach ranks lower than pinky to the row above.
