Great work Suraj, thank for sharing your efforts online. I've just received my Glove80 and am trying out your 'engrammer' implementation. My initial thoughts are that the flow of typing generally feels good. However, I do find the position of the 'b' key to be sub-optimal on the Glove80 with Engram, often requiring a little palm shift. I am tempted to do a simple switch such as: or a more elaborate redesign: Maybe I'm hating on caps-lock too much? Would love to hear your thoughts. Are there any gross changes you've strongly considered? |

Hi Josh, thanks for your feedback! 👍 I agree with your sentiment about capslock placement: I have been thinking of swapping it with Z to make the layout symmetric and better utilize the Glove80 keyboard hardware. As for the other key swaps you proposed (including the upper row pinky keys B and V), it has been my observation that a slight change in palm placement (i.e. moving them north by half a centimeter or a quarter inch) results in vastly improved accessibility of those keys. I'm also more comfortable with the idea of moving Q and Z because they're the least frequently occurring letters in English and thus their repositioning shouldn't impact the efficiency and ergonomics of the layout very much. Please do experiment further, also trying different palm perches and tenting, and check out this discussion on the Engram forums for more ideas. Cheers. P.S. I'm currently typing this on your layout. https://my.glove80.com/#/la.... It feels like typing on the home row is laggier than on a configuration without layers on the home row. Does enabling the n key rollover help with this or is there anything else you've done to counter act this? |

i just found this after getting my glove 80 yesterday. i am still in qwerty but your symbol layer is a game changer even after a day. thank you so much for posting this. i am still a neophyte on custom keyboards but im already using the symbol layer. albeit slowly |

Figured out that I needed to select the firmware version with mousekeys to make it work. So, all good now! |

As of this writing, you'll need to build your keymap with the PR23 beta firmware on the Glove80 Layout Editor in order for the mouse control keys on the Mouse layer to work properly. I'm using the regular Kailh Choc V1 Red switches (50g) on my Glove80. These are most similar to the Gateron Cap V2 Milky Yellow (60g) switches that I enjoyed on my previous Dactyl Manuform keyboard. In general, per my limited observations, there appears to be a 10g difference between Kailh Choc V1 and Gateron MX, such that you can take any Gateron switch and subtract 10g from its weight rating to figure out its nearest equivalent Kailh switch. You can also discuss this topic further on the #glove80-keyswitches channel on the Glove80 discord forum: it's common question and many have already shared their advice and direct experience on the matter. Hey! Bought the glove80 a few months back, and I have really enjoyed the journey it has been to get used to an ergonomic keyboard. I quite quickly flashed your keymap and started using it (with a lot of printouts to remember all the keybinds!), and I really enjoyed the progression so thanks a lot for sharing! One problem I have been struggling with though, that maybe you can help me with is the compatibility with Linux, more specifically Pop_!OS 22.04 LTS. I manage to find the Glove80 in BT devices, and connect to it but it does not register any inputs. I tried flashing the Firmware again and factory resetting but with no success. Do you have any tips on how I can troubleshoot this problem? |

I really like the idea of your symbol layer and the "layer locking/unlocking" and many more of your thoughts. Your video really touches on what is still wrong with my layout for my corn-ish zen. Did you encounter or maybe wrote yourself a symbol layer layout that is similar for 40% split keyboards such as the the corne or corne-ish zen? Perhaps a layout with multiple symbol layers? I am aware of Miryoku, but Miryoku does not seem to achieve what you can do with your Glove 80 layout. |

Hello! I love your writeups, and find them very inspirational, thank you. I got my glove80 one month ago, and flashed in a version of your layout, but optimized for norwegian writing. I find it a bit overwhelming with so many layers to remember. Do you know of any tools that exist where I can just press some keybinding to get the mapping of specific layers to pop up on screen? Would be really helpfull and time-saving. |

Yes, there is a contributed patch for that feature, which is only implemented for macOS at present. However, support for more operating systems is planned. regarding the new update v39: Version 39 (2024-11-12) - it applies only to one of the layouts -Enthium alpha layout, how can it be applied for example to the qwerty layout? |

Do we have to choose between an older firmware (PR23,2024 feb) and the new one (v39, Firmware v24.02) in order to add support for mouse clicks/cursor layer etc? |

No, the PR23 beta firmware for mouse key support on the Glove80 can be used successfully with any release version of the Glorious Engrammer keymap because they are independent things. The latter's DTSI code automatically adjusts itself based on the presence (or absence) of PR23, so average users needn't worry about it. Cheers. |
