Using nanokvm on a pc with an existing display

My primary use is to problem solve issues on PC out in the field so I want to be able to access the PC BIOS during a PC reboot.

To get the nanokvm to work I have to

1. remove the main display HDMI connection
2. connect aux power to the nanokvm

The nanokvm is unstable without the aux power.
I can't access the BIOS (it seems to skip past it) when the primary display is connected during a PC reboot.

It works consistently with aux power and no main display attached.

What can I do to get it to work with a main display?
